Loyalty

Nut your absolutely correct. Companies have been cutting benefits for years in an attempt streamline companies and improve the bottom line and make more money for stockholders. This trend seems to have the opposite effect than intended. It often saves money in the short term but in the long run employees feel as though are getting screwed and productivity drops because employees don't care about the company any more.\r \r The company I work for nickle and dime's us on F'n everything. Everyone who works here feels that we get screwed, and we do. I'm on salary so when I work overtime I don't get paid for it but if I don't make 80 hours in a pay period they deduct it from my paycheck, which is illegal. (I sent an anonymous letter to the state labor board about it so we'll see what happens). Our company made over 4 million dollars last year, not bad considering we only have less than 20 year round employees. However, end of year bonuses are not based on how much you did for the company. It's based on how much the boss likes you, and since I don't fit in with the pretentious outdoor fitness culture of Colorado, because I'm a redneck at heart, I always get screwed.

I agree with Swanky 100% The company I work for is the same way. You get raises or bonuses at the end of the year, based on how much the bosses like you, instead of your work output or going the extra mile compared to others. Anyone on salary here doesn't even make their regular pay when they are on OT!!

The bottom line is people will always complain about work and how they are stingy or whatever. But they will still get up and go to work. If you don't, someone else will. All of you guys complain about work (myself included) but we still have to go because we have wives, kids, responsibilities. There are so many people looking for jobs that if you rock the boat to hard you will be swimming upstream while tons of people try to take your spot. The nature of the beast that lets the bosses do what they do.

I feel your pain. Or should I say, 'I have felt your pain'.\r Started my own business about six years ago and it was the best/scariest move I ever made. There is no corperate food chain here.\r I say 'Don't blame the Boss, Become one and make a change!'\r I did, And my employee's get respect. I learned how NOT to treat the people that work for you by working for a criminal douche bag for 10 years before figuring out that I was wasting my time.\r You are not alone in your thoughts, But I say Do something about it!!

I have a family member (self-employed) who says if you don't work for yourself you will alwasy get screwed. I am not sure I agree there...I mean if you own your business or are self employed there is alot of extra work you will put in just to keep things going smoothly, alot of overhead...I have seen the hours he works and the stress of taking care of everything for his company. \r \r In the past year the company my hubby worked at has also made similar cuts...less insurance, less to no bonuses...firing (or as they call it laying off) anyone with big salaries in the company. Trying to keep everything as cheap as possible yet make the same or more in profits than the past year. The end of last year we both worred if Frank would soon see a ticket out the door...luckily they have moved on out of his department to filter out expenses in other departments (sad of the other departments though). It is a sad state we are in today.....

Nut and myself work at the same company and all I have to say is this: I haven't received a cost of living raise in 6 years. You do the math.....
