Lasik

For years I wondered about having Lasik.  My eye sight started getting bad in the fourth or fifth grade, I wore glasses for many years and in high school I started wearring contacts.  Around the age of 24 I had to stop wearring contacts because they were making my eyes worse, and for someone as blind as I was that wasn't a good thing.  It has been almost a month since I had my Lasik done.  Before my Lasik I was -7.50 in each eye...I couldn't read the big E without my glasses even if I squinted.

Now for the first time in my life I have better than great vision, it is now 20/15.  Having Lasik was the best decision I could have made, the light bursts at night get anoying but it's still worth it!!!  I can now go swimming without the worry of being able to see when my glasses are spotted with water.  I can go on fast rides and water rides without the worry of losing my glasses, I've had that happen.  Oh and I can wear regular sunglasses, Woohoo [View Image]

I feel so silly [View Image] when I go to bed and I am still trying to take my glasses off, or when I am watching tv and I try to push them up.

For anyone that has been considering it and wanted to hear some more feedback...I love it, and  I'd do it again in a heart beat![View Image]

I'm budgeting to have it done in September.\r I'd like to hear more about the \"light bursts\" at night. Not that it worries me. I'm just concerned with safety. I ride a motorcycle as my primary transportation :)

Im thinking about Lasik for the same reason as br1ckt0p.\r Having your glasses sucked off your face or your contact dried to your eyeballs suck when youre on a bike.

that's awesome. I definitely wanna get checked out for Lasik when I have the money. my sister went and had a consultation but they said that she couldn't have it. hopefully my luck is better when I go. :-)

I had this done about 8 years ago and I don't regret it a bit. You have some of the \"lightburst\" phenomenon while you heal but it goes away. If anyone has any questions just PM me.

Sweet, its something I would like to get one day just not sure I can. Astigmatism is pretty bad and I heard that can knock you out of the race.

@br1ckt0p: The light burst/starburst effect is, to quote a friend who recently had LASIK, best described this way:\r \r Ever looked at a very bright light in the very dark and you can see 'trails' coming from the epicenter of the light - as if you're looking at a pointed star? That would be it. It happens frequently after the initial surgery but diminishes over time.\r \r When he first got his LASIK about 3 months ago he complained about it all the time. Now he rarely even mentions it so I can only assume it's diminished to the point of tolerable or maybe even non existant.
