Knocking off the rust...

Have you ever noticed how little time it takes for your H2 skills to start sucking?  Well, for me it is obviously just a couple of weeks.  Last night was the first time I had played in a while and, man, did I suck some hind tit.  I have been a hardcore H2 player since the release on that cold November night (I was at the midnight release with my folding chair and thermos of coffee like a true geek).  Hell, I didn't even get broadband until a few week before the launch and the only reason I got it was so I could play H2 when it came out (and for the porn...dial-up porn is so 90s).  Lately, though, RL has been getting in the way of my playing time.  I used to average 4-5 nights a week on H2 but now I'm lucky if I get on 1-2 nights a week.  Hopefully that will be changing but that's not really the point of this post.

Last night I hooked up with my Clan and we got in a bunch of good games.  While I was having fun I couldn't help but notice that I was not placing in the top of my team and my K/D ratio was abyssmal.  It's here that I should mention how competitive I am.  I thrive on competition.  Even though I know it's all about fun I just can't help myself when I play a game, any game.  I want to win.  Oh, I'll always throw out a good game and point out nice plays by those who kill me but inside my rage bubbles just a little after every loss.  What's worse is that I used to be a pretty decent player.  Not on the level of BioSlayer, Soup, or some of the other great players out there but I usually helped my team as opposed to hindering it.

As the night progressed we lost the more casual players and got a room of more competitive types.  MLG customs are usually the staple of what these rooms play and that is what I prefer.  If I'm not starting with a BR there's a problem.  Unfortunately that was when I learned just how much rust had accumulated on my already average skills.  I had a very rough time.  It seemed like I just couldn't get anything started and just when I though I might someone gave me a burst of reality to the face.  Regardless I still had fun, but even more I realized that I need to get some more playing time in.  I just can't stand it when I'm not competitive.

I believe my Clanmates are generously (especially after last nights performance) going to let me on their MLG 4v4 team as an alternate so now I really feel like I need to pull out the 55 gallon drum of WD-40 and dunk myself in it a few times.  I'll be on more now so if you don't mind a squeaky Spartan on your team I'll be looking for some games.  In advance...thanks for the party invite and sorry for the swearing.

I disagree with the rust thing. Until the LAN I hadn't played any Halo in 4 or 5 months. My first game at the LAN I crushed 15 other people who have been playing nightly forever, and are pretty decent. Sure, they all had 4 or so kills and I was at 0, but the skills come back quickly... :)\r \r D

Obviously your skills are made out of a more stainless steel type material where mine have a more a weathered iron quality. ;)
