I just stumbled across one of the drawbacks to leaving your 6 year old play on xbox live unattended. I just received this email from Xbox Live -

Dear GIJoeBob,

This mail is confirmation that you successfully purchased Xbox Live Arcade Alien Sky Premium Download on Thursday, September 13, 2007. Here is a description of your purchase:

Thank you for extending your game with content available only to the Xbox Live(TM) gaming elite. You have selected Xbox Live Arcade Alien Sky Premium Download. For this download, your account will be charged $9.99 plus applicable taxes.

You get my sympathy, only because if I laughed the karma gods would strike, and I would get the same letter next week. ;)

At least your 6 year old didn't go in and change your gamertag to TimmyRulz or ThumbSucka or something :lol:\r \r Anyway good way to protect against that is to use the pass code feature to Live. That will prevent any access to Live/Marketplace without knowing the proper button sequence to press on the controller.\r \r On this past sunday's Major Nelson podcast, E talks about this very feature. Might watn to download it, fast forward to the end 10 minutes or so to catch the Xbox101 segment.

The problem with the passcode is it blocks ALL XBL access. I wanted my son to be able to download demos and videos that are free but not ring up the card. \r \r What I ended up doing was adding a payment method. I added a card that expired the following month. If you dig deep into the Account settings you can switch between payment methods. \r \r I set the expired card as the primary payment method. Now he cant \"accidentally\" buy stuff but if I want to buy a game or video on his console I can swap out the payment methods.\r \r An added benefit of allowing the access is I can see what he is playing and for how long from work via Xbox.com
