Kids and Video Games

Tuesday night while everybody on my Clan list was playing Halo 3 I went into Halo 2 MM and it was full of kids (because all the adults were playing Halo 3) so I decided to mess around with the campaign. My 3.5 year old daughter wanted to play also. She sat in my lap and tried to play but it wasn't comfortable so I got an older controller and gave it to her.

She plays for a minute or so and then says "HEY, it isn't plugged in "

BUSTED...

So she goes over and tries to plug it in. Well I told her it wouldn't fit (because I took the other end off). So then she wasn't happy anymore..

So, being the good dad I am I let her back in my lap and Master Chief walked in circles and stared at the ceiling (sorry old buddy). Then she would tell me it was my turn. I would get him oriented the right way and then it was her turn.

Fast forward:

Last night I was home with her while her mother and grandmother were shopping and I was reading a book while she was watching a Disney Princess movie. The movie gets over and she says, "Daddy, I want to kill something".

Oh, oh. Better not let her mother hear that.

She leaves the 180 alone and it sits on top of my sub-woofer... However, I am scared now that she wants to play she will be tempted to touch the system. I guess I better not leave any discs in the drive anymore.

Well, I will be getting a 360 in a few months so what are some good games for a 3.5 year old girl to play?

thank god my 3 year old son still likes the controller without the batteries.\r \r i let my kids play the dumb little ducks game on the ps3 because it's gesture based and it's more intuitive.\r \r honestly, i have no idea what 360 games would be simple enough for a 3 year old to play.

that is funny....my son started with Halo when he was a little younger than that. But most games that are \"tamer\" aka no shooting, are pretty difficult to play. Viva Pinata is one....but there are also a lot of arcade games that are pretty low key...and cheaper...I also download demos and my son plays thoughs first to see if he likes the game.

hmmm....\r \r geometry wars since its really colorful and just uses the analog sticks.\r \r I dont have kids...so I generally dont keep track of good kids games.\r \r maybe Cars? I know Jolly got it for his boys and they love it.

i don't know about you guys but even my 5.5 year old does not have the hand eye coordination to play any of those games.\r \r and geometry wars? r u serious? that game is way too fast for a 3 year old.

They have checkers on the arcade now...and pinball would help with the hand-eye....my son picked it up really quickly

My kids (daughter 6 and son 4) love playing Lego Star Wars II. I play with them (as you can see on my gamer card). After helping them for a few minutes getting used to the controls, they started getting pretty good. They don't always try to complete the level as you should. They like running around and busting stuff up. My son has a serious jones for Pocket Bike Racer. A $3 game that cam with my Whopper will keep him entertained for an hour or more. He likes driving off of cliffs or other high places.

Thanks. My older brother has Lego Star Wars for his girls. Last weekend they watched \"Star Wars\". He told me they said \"Hey dad, the movie is just like the video game\".. Funny, that they had it all backwards.
