Kidney stones are expensive
So I went to the ER with kidney stones (didn't know it at the time or else I'd have stayed home) the day before my birthday... just got a bill in the mail for I kid you not $12K. My insurance sucks and I hadn't been sick enough throughout the year to hav met my deductible so out of pocket I'm paying more than I have saved up. WTF? Isn't the whole point of insurance to CYA when you need it? Fuck. I hope everyone likes hugs for Christmas. That's all I can afford for the next year or so.

Don't roll over so easy!\r

Give the hospital a call and see if they can work something out with you (they usually will, and will usually reduce the overall bill quite a bit).\r

It never hurts to pick up the phone and give them a call.\r

The worst you could do is set up some sort of payment plan.\r

Just some advice from someone who's been through all that before.
for $12k, it might also be worth it to get a lawyer to review that insurance paperwork, I may not trust lawyers, but I trust insurance people even less.
Wow, are you sure that's a bill and just not what was billed? When my kids were born it was like 13K for each. We paid like a couple hundred. \r

I would check with your insurance company. That just seems nuts.
crappy insurance or not, that seems way out of line! Maybe they're just bustin' your stones (hehehehe). I'm with the others, check this out thoroughly before freaking out. Hopefully, your insurance picks up the lion's share.
Your insurance company should have an appeals process so see if you can take advantage of that for them to pick up most of the bill.
