Job Fail...

Awhile ago I blogged about my needing to make a decision to perhaps leave the temp agency job to take a permanent position at another company.  I did take that other position as most of you know and was doing quite well there, very excited that I was back doing what I love to do and not feeling like I was brain dead.  But sometimes....

I was laid off on Thursday due to lack of available work.  Job went well for a few months, then in January we lost 3 clients...for a small company, that's a lot.  One was our second biggest client, a very lucrative construction company that had shady owners who believed that they shouldn't have to pay taxes at all and that 'they paid us enough money that it should just be taken care of', and the other two just went out of business.  About 40% of the company's income per month gone...never to be found again.  I did acquire one new client in February who had just opened up her first bar and grill, worked my ass off getting all of her shit in order, then she got scared with her first bill and hasn't been back, so that didn't help. Not to mention the fact that we just weren't getting in the regular tax clients in this tax season that she usually does.  All in all this has resulted in my not having a job, yet again.  I've now been laid off twice since December of '07...not very good.  Not good at all.  I don't know what's going on.  I know I haven't done anything to be let go for...I've just been the unfortunate recipient of a lot of bad luck when it comes to jobs lately.  Must figure out what to do.  Do I go back to school while doing temp or part time work to make myself more valuable to companies that do hire me?  Fuck if I know...I just know I fail at jobs right now.  Seriously...I've had more jobs in the last year than in the 10 years previous, lol.   Fucking shit. 


Anyways...time to find a new job...this time hopefully with a company that isn't going to go out of business or lose a majority of their income if they lose a couple clients.  I've had two interviews since Thursday...which is awesome.  Both I should know about by Wednesday.  I have applied with an accounting job finder company, sent in dozens of resumes, and take more testing for another job finder agency tomorrow.  Hopefully I can knock this unemployment stint out quickly, we just can't afford for me to be out of work very long at all again.

That sucks Durty. I hope you find something soon. But going back to school and working temp might be a good idea. My job is talking about closing my office and that will be my plan if that happens.

Boo on the economy! Good luck...people around me are getting dropped from their jobs like crazy!

No need to internalize this one. It's not just you. Your country is probably in the roughest economic streatch that it's had in a decade.\r \r Doing any work that comes along and investing in yourself through additional education sounds like a fantastic idea though.\r \r Maybe you could setup a side business preparing people's taxes for extra money too.

I echo Rask. This is not about you and failing at jobs! Look into getting grants or scholarships for taking classes. Education is never wasted and always a good investment!

Like Rask said, you're not alone Durty, millions of people are losing their jobs out there. Meanwhile my place has had a hell of a time just trying to keep people! We had a \"cattle call\" last week and I don't think we had more than a half a dozen people show up. People just don't want to work around here I guess. :(

sigh... suckage.\r \r Remember: being laid off means that they are getting rid of the little box on the org chart: not you. You happen to be i the little box on the org chart.\r \r I did temp work... I have had to hire temp workers. You know what? It may be brainless work but you would Not BELIEVE the shit workers you can get through an agency. Trust me... whoever gets you will be thankful that they can say \"HEy do this shit\" and you actually do that shit without being a total loser!\r \r not sure how I can help. Ottawa is a very very odd place... Federal Civil service even more strange.

Good luck. Have you tried the temp agency again. Sometimes they are grateful to have someone return if they are good (as you apparently are)! Check 'em out!
