It's About Literacy Y'all - Who Needs Grammar?

I noticed these posters at my daughter's school and just had to shake my head. They are from a campaign to promote literacy program awareness in Oklahoma, called Read Y'all, which is sponsored by our library system. The first one I saw featured our governor, Brad Henry, and his wife. Apparently, they are using anybody with any hint of being a celebrity in the state, such as James Garner, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood and Garrett Mills.


I'm all for promoting literacy, but shouldn't we promote literacy without resorting to butchering grammar?

I see what you are saying but they could be doing it to make a point about how bad it looks and sounds to use words like this. But what do I know. I live in TN.

This state already has a reputation as being filled with backwards rednecks. I shudder to think what someone visiting from somewhere else would think if they saw these poster hanging in a public library or a school here. It's bad enough we named our pro basketball team \"Thunder\".

At least they spelled \"y'all\" right. I hate seeing it spelled \"ya'll.\"
