iRacing 24 Hours of Spa - Team GoneBrokeRacing - 2o2p

7 of us will be sharing a Ford GT GT3 trying to complete a full 24 hour race.  Keep your fingers crossed.


Hour 2 Update

In a tactical move, we chose not to qualify and start towards the back of grid in the hopes of having a better chance of not getting caught up in wrecks of the over zealous.  Turns out the move was warranted.  Oldslowfred leads off and has kept the car largely out of trouble.  There was minor contact with another car during accident avoidance in the blind T1 exit late in the second stint.  We've slowly been moving up the order as others get caught up in wrecks damaging their cars.  The prototype field has been decimated with accidents...with only 6 cars remaining on track.  Oldslowfred brought the car into the pits all the way up in 10th in class (GT3), though we will likely drop back a few once the pitstop cycle completes.  F1Fan07 takes over and will be in the car for the next 2 hours 20 odd minutes.

Hour 9.5 Update: Knight has taken over from Boza and is nearing the end of his second stint. I'll be hopping in the car in a few minutes. Currently sitting 4th in class, 10th overall. Currently nursing some minor war wounds from an earlier incident. The car doesn't appear to be seriously affected at this time.

Hour 12 Update: I turned the car over to Zedarchitect just past the 12 hour mark. We are halfway there! And we are still running 4th in class, 10th overall. Hour 14 Update: Running 4th in class (10th overall) with Zedarchitect at the wheel. We are due for a pitstop and driver swap here in a few laps.

Hour 15.5 Update: Still running 4th in class (now 9th overall) w/ Troysloth (aka Jarhead) at the wheel for a triple stint. F1Fan07 up next in about 2.5 hours. Off to catch a power-nap so I can help support the guys for the final stint calcs.

Hour 20 Update: Only 4 more to go! Boza is currently in the car. Still holding down 4th in class (9th overall)...even with a mid-session computer re-boot for Troysloth & a server disco for F1Fan07. We're going to be tight on fuel trying to eliminate the final stop.

Hour 21 Update: Oldslowfred, our resident gas miser is in the car. Still holding 4th in class (9th overall) w/ a 3 lap buffer to 3rd & a 2 lap buffer to 5th.

Hour 22 Update: 2 hours to go. Knight is in the car for his last stint. Still holding 4th in class (9th overall). Things are pretty much settled into status quo, with everyone just focused on making the finish right now.

Was this your guys first shot at a 24hr race? Still looking for final results and your thoughts on the experience. Nice to see others tackle the challenge.

20 minutes remain. Zedarchitect is behind the wheel. We've moved into 3rd after the 2nd place car had an extended stay on pit road for crash repairs. We've just completed our final service and set for the run to the checkers. Yeah Brntguy, this is our first go at a 24hr race. We've run a 12hr @ Sebring & 6hr @ Watkins Glen. We're stoked right now...but it ain't over til it's over.

It's official, 3rd in class (7th overall)! Think I'm going to have to find some champagne this morning. Endurance racing is such an awesome experience. It's so much more than just hopping in a car and going balls to the wall. The teamwork, the scheduling, the strategy, adapting to changing situations...it all adds so much more to it. Our next go at it will be at Petit Lemans in October. See you then.

Nice job to all the teammates! Yea endurance events, having full dmg, pit strategy, etc,etc, really is quite the experience and darned fun too! Cheers!

That was one hell of an experience, sharing a car over 24 hours with 6 other team mates is a very different experience to driving a one man race. Knowing some or all of them are watching your every move...Well it adds a whole new level of pressure. It was good to be back in the GBR fold, the time zone thing has prevented me racing with them for some time. Chris did an amazing job as crew chief. Constantly planning strategy to the nth degree...To the point he had one driver getting to his fuel stop on fumes...That got the blood pumping and no mistake. Would I do it again? Damn straight. Cheers to my friends at Gone Broke Racing, still the best damn bunch of racers on PC. Bring on Le Mans!

Really well done fellas! Sounds like you had a blast and top notch on the race strategy and supporting blog, fun to read when I've raced against most of you albeit some time ago for all but Sheldon.
