“Ignorance Is Bliss” an irrefutable argument.
The term “Ignorance is bliss” if you break it down is comparing the definition of the two words…
Ignorance: is a lack of knowledge.
Bliss: is a state of great joy or happiness.
Looking at the two definitions if you take the saying “What you don’t know can’t hurt you”. One form of Bliss can come from Ignorance. If you choose to not know something, then it is something that won’t bother you, therefore the end result can be that you will be more jovial, or happy.
To give one very basic example, As a child you didn’t know that Santa, The Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, weren’t real, and in most cases they brought joy to you. Once you learn that they are real you can’t deny that believing they were real is a state of bliss.
The reason I provide this example is that some argue Ignorance is not bliss. This argument makes no sense. No matter what, ignorance is bliss. You may look back and realize that it wasn’t very bright of you to believe in a fat guy in a red suit that comes down your 1ft wide chimney and gives you free stuff. But when you did believe it, it made you happy.
If you take “Ignorance is not Bliss” and put it up against their definitions, Ignorance: a lack of knowledge. And Bliss: a state of joy or happiness. You would be saying that knowing all of the horrible truths of the world makes you happier.
My point here is that Ignorance is Bliss. Looking back you will realize that being ignorant wasn’t your best choice. But while ignorant, you were happier.
I’m sure there are many other examples that you could provide to argue one way or the other, but this is just my take on it. Also, my apologies if this sounds a bit like a rant. But something encouraged the composition of this.
