this is a great example of quality over flash. too many times we get gypped into buying a game because of all the hype only to get ripped off. well here's your chance to even things out a bit. this is a great game with hardly any hype! honestly, if bas bleu had not told me about it, i probably would never have heard of it.


it's sort of survival horror and sort of shooter. it's atmospheric and well made with an actual story behind it. based on the novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky, who was closely involved in the making of this game, it never becomes too oppressive or difficult. the balance is close to perfect. the grfx ans sound effects are all AAA. there's nothing 2nd rate here.


the best chance for this game is word of mouth and maybe it will send a message to publishers that quality in a game does matter, hopefully more than hype.


do yourselves a favor and try this game

While it didn't have an advertising budget, it has received plenty of coverage by the enthusiast press. I think part of the reason it's getting overlooked is because it just didn't review very well. While it makes a pretty good first impression, the enemies take way too much damage compared to your character and most reviewers got so frustrated with the experience they quit half-way through the game. Sounds like a good one to catch once it's in the clearance bin.

There were a few frustrating parts for me, but it never reached a point where I wanted to quit. I played it twice through and would play it again - I enjoyed it that much. \r You want to discuss frustration? Try the Desperate Escape DLC for RE5...now THAT'S frustration...

i never thought the game was hard to the point that it was unplayable. not at all!\r \r too many games nowadays hold your hand throughout it. this just isn't one of those. it's challenging, but not frustratingly so,\r \r i really haven't seen many reviews. i did the important thing. i actually played the game! and i can tell you that this game is worth every cent!\r \r bas is right. the re5 dlc is for sado-masochists! of course, it's nice to be punished with a partner!\r \r thanks char! i have it on blu-ray! : )

It looks pretty cool, I think I'll have to try it after hearing all the reviews from real people, I don't go by the Media, they aren't very reliable.\r \r Whats wrong with Desperate Escape? It is the more challenging of the two, but both are way to short.

Great info... I was on the fence about the game, it looked cool but it was largely overlooked by the mainstream gaming press, and has everything to do with what you said about the marketing machine. Seeing the comments here I'm going to have to pick it up now.

I agree with Lux on this one. The game has a steep learning curve to it, because you don't have the help of a HUD, or armor like most games. If you did, it would not be accurate to the setting of the game, and the story they were trying to tell. I was frustrated at first also, but I understood what the developers were trying to do, and I'm glad I played thru it.

I’m not opposed to hard game play. I prefer it. Heck, I’m playing Demon’s Souls and I’m trying to platinum God of War--that’s as hard as it gets. I’m just not into frustrating game play. I have so many games on my plate right now, that any game I play has to be above par. At least for now. \r \r Bas Bleu, thanks for your comments as well. You’ve made me rethink getting this game.\r \r Lux, that one’s worth having on blu-ray. I own a few of those underwater type blu-rays. They’re beautiful to watch and it opens your world. \r

I loved this game and didn't find it overly difficult. I'm glad I didn't let this one slip by, well worth it.

@ Fish: Running a marathon is challenging. \r RE5 DLC was torturous, agonizing, and irksome with little to no feeling of accomlishment in the end. I would rather be put to the rack than play that DLC again. \r I was nearly ready to call the paramedics for Lux when we were playing - I feared he was going into imminent stress-induced heart failure.\r \r @Char: I became quite immersed in this game, despite its relatively short play time. But I would put it in my top 10 favorite games - EVEH!
