How Fast is Fast Enough?

I read a thread last week comparing connection speeds; holy crap there were some fast ones.  My question is this, for gaming how much do you really need?  I can see the advantage in games like rainbow six where you can host a room, but in the Halo/COD lobby system where the game chooses the best host does it matter that much?

I'm currently using a tin can and a piece of string from Time Warner with a blazing speed of 768/125.  To be honest I don't really notice any connection problems; no more than most others I guess.  I'm a mediocre player but my k/d is 1.32 and rising, wouldn't significant lag or latency make hitting other people impossible?  It seems like these games are optimized to use a tiny amount of bandwidth. Does anyone have one of those routers that shows bandwidth on it?  I'd like to see that.

In other news:

A nude picture of the first lady of France, Carla Bruni, sold at a Christie's auction for $91,000.  For all the ladies on the site, I would gladly sell one of myself for 1/4 that - what a steal!

Your numbers are about the same as what I had. The problem I found was if my wife was on the laptop upstairs. Instant lag. I had the occasional lag without her being on but nothing too bad. As soon as she got on, it got bad. I got a new service yesterday that is about 3 times as fast for $2 more a month. My 360 died last night so I haven't got to test it out but I can tell a HUGE difference surfing the web.
