House Eats Another Electronic Device

Maybe.


My computer died Saturday.  It won't boot-up.  Basically, it's dead.  No idea how or why.  It won't recognize the HD.


Now, it probably isn't the house, but, I'll just chalk it up to the house.  (4) AC kills.  (2) Refrigerator kills.  (1) Xbox kill.  (1) TV, and now, (1) laptop computer.  All in the past 3-4 years, and almost all fairly new electronics.


*Sigh*


Thank god it's on another item that I bought an extended warranty for.  I rarely buy them, but for the things I do buy them for, they've come in handy.

you have a second hdd to boot up or a usb portable drive that you can swap to see if its the hdd or the motherboard or seomthing else? I wouldnt give up on it before testing all that.

Damn, you've got a terrible track record there. It's gotta be the house, don't they have conditioners you can put at your circuit box?\r \r In my house, any expensive electronic item is attached to a UPS, but that wouldn't help with AC or the fridge.

You can download a linux CD that will run from the CD drive. If it's an OS problem, the CD will boot-up and you'll be able to recover files.\r You can just google for \"linux for windows recovery\". I used Knoppix and it worked well.

Maybe you need a good quality surge protection power strip? Those cheap $10 or less ones only have one or two plugs that are surge protected. The more expensive $20 and aboves ones are all protected. I personally rely on APC to keep my electronics save.\r \r
