Home Sweet Home

I guess.

Anyways, back home and at work again.  The drive back was a grind.  Not only because it took a bit longer then usual (12 hours), but also because my Monster-in-law was with us for the majority of the drive.

Typically, on a long drive like that, the little one is watching a DVD with headphones, the wife sleeps, and I listen to XM radio, specifically Opie and Anthony, and the uncensored comedy channels.  If the little one takes her headphones off, I turn the radio down or change the channel.

But, since the MIL (Monster-In-Law) was along, I pretty much censored myself.  God forbid I listen to some raunchy comedy and then have to hear her opinion about it.  It's not that I don't care what she thinks, I don't.  I just don't want to hear about it for the entire drive.

The drive was interesting in one aspect.  We got to view all the flooding that was happening in Kansas and Oklahoma.  And, there was A LOT.  The flooding was intense. Numerous fields totally underwater, exit and entrance ramps to the highway underwater.  Even one lane of southbound I-35 was closed due to flooding in southern Kansas appx. 10 miles from the Oklahoma border.

But, back to the MIL.  I mentioned Opie and Anthony above.  One of friends of the show, is named "No Filter" Paul.  He's named this because he basically has no filter between his brain and his mouth and says whatever is on his mind.  Well, my MIL is a lot like that.  She's judgmental.  I guess it goes to her being a born-again die-hard Southern Baptist (among other things).  She just can't keep her judgments to herself.

For example.  Yesterday I was watching a show I had recorded while I was away on vacation and my MIL was watching as well.  It was on Discovery HD and the name of the show was "Gamer Generation".  The 2nd part of the show featured a family where the husband and wife both played "City of Heroes" together.  At no time, was anything mentioned about gaming negatively affecting their family.  In fact, I felt that they were showing that the marriage was strong because the husband and wife both gamed together.

Well, my wife comes into the room and asks, "Who are these people?"  MIL's reply?  "They're people whose marriage is crumbling because of gaming."  WTF?!?!?  I bit my tongue, watched for a few more minutes, and stopped the show and turned a show about "Xtreme Martial Arts".  I really didn't feel the need to challenge the MIL as she is here for guess how long?  1 week?  Nope.  2 Weeks?  Nope.  3 Weeks?  Nope.  4 WEEKS!!!  ARGH!?!?

So, for now on, I think I'll call her "No Filter" Mom.  Since she obviously doesn't have a filter.  (That's a pretty vanilla example.  There are others far more "extreme").

Anyways, the Xtreme Martial Arts show was actually pretty cool.  Though, she had to ask:  "How do these people make money?"  Well, they go to competitions.  "They make money from that?"  Ummm...  yeah.  You don't get to be the best in the world working full-time and then training in your spare time.

And so starts my glorious month with my NFM (No Filter Mom).
