Films that Influenced My Growth
Well, after some chats with a friend, I've decided to look back and see what films probably had an influence in my life. Now, those influences my not be directly apparent, but because some of these films are easily recalled, makes me think that they made me think about things. Either that, or I just watched them too many damn times.
So, the first period we'll examine would normally be childhood. But, the VCR had just been invented and was enormously expensive. So no rentals while I was ages 6-10.
So, onward to....
PUBERTY
1981. What a great year. I guess. LOL, I don't recall much from that year other than Carter's failed Presidency, the Iran Hostage crisis, and... CINEMAX. Yes, 1980-1981 was the year that cable television started to propagate throughout the United States.
My parents signed up for cable in 1980-1981 (I don't recall exactly) and although we were only supposed to get Cinemax for free for (3) months, we somehow ended up receiving it for free for almost 4 years. Don't ask me how. My father may have had us hooked up illegally. I don't know, and he won't tell. :)
Movie #1

Excaliber (1981) - The ORIGINAL story of King Arthur and the round table. This movie had it all. Sex, Violence, Magic, Sex, Violence. It was brutal and did not shy away from the violence. I was in awe of this movie for years, and it still ranks up there in my favorite movies of all time.

"10" (1979) - My first introduction to the goddess known as Bo Derek. She was what I would measure all women against in the coming years. Bo Derek.

Did I mention Bo Derek?

Clash of the Titans - Already in Sci-Fi thanks to Star Wars, this movie got me hooked into Fantasy Novels that I still read today in abundance. I look back on this movie now, and to compare it to todays special effects, and just laugh.

Porky's - Possibly my first introduction to raunchy comedy, Porky's had it all. Sex, jokes, Sex, joke, and more sex. After watching this movie, I realized I wasn't the only boy in the world who measured his penis. Also an early introduction to Kim Cattrall. Woof woof Lassie!

Risky Business - Awesome movie. Ignore the dancing in the underwear. Focus on a young, and smoking hot Rebecca De Mornay. I'm still enthralled with this woman's eyes. The sex scenes on the stairs and on the train are some of the steamiest in a non-soft porn movie IMO.

Bolero - Bo Derek? Lot's of sex? Bo Derek? Milk and Honey? Wow. I can't tell you how many times this was watched on Cinemax. Taped on the VCR as well. This movie led the way to 9 1/2 Weeks, Wild Orchid, and other sexually charged movies. Bo Derek. Still looking great at 51!

Happy Birthday Bo!
- BTW, I left out the obvious influences like: Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Star Trek, etc.. as those are popular and easy choices.
