Fear.

One of my biggest fears happened to me this evening.

A 7-year old boy ran out in front of me while I was driving my car, and I hit him. No warning what-so-ever.

Thankfully, it was in the mall parking lot, and I was only going 5-10 mph.

Thankfully, he wasn't seriously hurt. My car hit him and basically threw him 10 feet away onto his back. Both my wife and child screamed.

The boy is going to be seriously bruised in the morning. He had a red mark on his back starting at the small of his back going all the way up to his shoulders.

The boy basically hopped out of his father's Excursion and ran out (without looking) to the parking lot because he had to go to the bathroom. He never saw me, and I didn't get a chance to see him. Part of the problem, is that he was shorter then the hood of the Excursion.

This is why you constantly remind your children to look both ways when crossing the road.

The father was pissed. But not at me. More at his boy for not looking. Probably mad more from fear then from actual anger.

Called the Police so that the incident was reported in case the boy needed to go to the hospital later on. (God I hope not.)

Needless to say, I'm pretty shook up. This has always been one of my biggest fears. Hitting a kid with my car and severely hurting him or killing him.

Luckily, neither of those happened.

Shit, that is scary. I always worry about that driving down my street, lots of kids just running around without looking. Hope that both you and the boy are ok.

Dont worry bout the \"what ifs\", you are not at fault even though you were the operator and an adult. Just be thankful. On the brighter side this will be a great lesson for your childrens own safety.

Glad everything is okay...I remember \"almost\" hitting a kid in a similar situation and I thought I was going to die right there just from the close call....

I'm still stunned for words bro. You know how to get a hold of me if you need to vent!

Oh man Soup, that is hella scary. I'm glad nothing too bad happened to the kid, which would have made it hurt more. Kids and cars are a scary combination - I always think I am being overprotective of the Junior Mulches, but it is for good reason. Take care of yourself.
