Did you know you may have a mental disorder?

I can see how someone could become addicted to video games. But without video games, those people would just get addicted to Boggle or Monopoly or gambling or something else. There is something to the fact that addition is inherited and may need medical intervention to stop it.\r \r The only thing I can't put my finger on would be the physical additive part of gaming. Are there certain chemicals that are released in the brain when you are gaming? I know all i get usually are some good laughs, a stiff neck, and sore thumbs.

I personally believe that a person can get addicted to anything...And that an addiction to something that doesn't have a physically addictive component like nicotine or something is really just a sign of something else going on whether it be depression, anxiety, or something else that is already on the books...So making a page in the ole psychology book for every disorder is a waste...

I think as a society we are using the term addicted way too much. I think obsessed is a better term: addictive to me means a biochemical reaction is goin' down.\r \r I think gaiming is a really really big habit...

when my girlfriend tells me a i play video games too much I just say hey, atleast im not shooting heroin. And she usually stops bothering me about it for a few hours :) All it takes is 2 kids who are obsessed with Doom 2 going and shooting kids at their school and all of a sudden all gamers are addicted psychopaths who are practicing murdering people on Halo so they can one day do it in real life. I tried that technique with NHL 08, but I still cant skate very well :)

I got you a thumb up. I love my addiction if that is what they want to call it. With me on games like COD 4 and COD 2 I try and run the maps through my head at work for strategy and getting to know what is around me. Oh well guess they have there books we have our games.

I wouldn't be surprised if a pharmaceutical company comes out with a magic pill to help cure you of your video game addiction. It's a disease ! :lol:

That would be just one of my many mental disorders. Addiction, hobby, passion, it's all relative. As long as your are not ignnoring your real life responsibilites who cares how much time someone spends on video games. By the way, there will be no Cleveland Steamer on your blog.

Thats what I'm saying Tank. I don't see how there can be a real link between some drug to relieve me of my gaming. Yes it can go to far, but TDrag stated it perfectly. If you are \"addicted\" (not the term I'd use) to video games then where do we draw the line as what is an addiction that truly needs help and what isn't?? Are we all going to need drugs and rehab? If there truly is some kind of physical addiction (which at the moment I don't see) then treat it, but lets not get crazy here, we don't need to add to a long list of stupid commercials saying \"Here take this, it helps with your gaming addiction, oh and by the why please note it may cause temporary blindness, nausea, dizziness, loss of use of your thumbs for a few days...:) \". I see Jeeps point that some people are \"addicted\" to gambling (and other activities) which again to me shows no physical symptoms of an addiction. I think it shows some other area of your life is in need and your \"supplementing\" it with said \"addiction\". BTW Tank, I know your comment was said in humor, but it is true that we tend find some of the weird stuff as \"diseases\".

@madwoman\r \r i THINK gambling has been proven to be a chemical addiction, in the sense that when you are gambling, you are creating hormones and such that I believe are associated with the risk involved in gambling and I believe that is what is addicting. I also saw a report that was actually backed up with data that shows recovering alcoholics and drug addicts are at a much higher risk for relapsing immediately after gambling.

No poop here, just a quick poke at the WoW players! lol\r If you have ever seen someone addicted to WoW you would understand how it could be an addiction! lol\r Seriously, I think someone can take anything too far if they try but I don't believe that there is a drug for most addictions. I think most drugs just cover the problem rather than fix them.\r Just my 2cents! \r Please don't poop on my comments!

It seems to me everyone is calling everyone else a nutjob these days. Do you drink coffee? you might have a problem. Spend 2 hours at the computer? you're crazy. Do you eat, sleep and exercise? okay you are nuts. Watch TV? check yourself in. LOL :D
