Contest Day

Today is the day that either secures my job or confirms my search for a new job. I have a performance based contest with my top group. They play three prepared pieces on stage for a panel of judges, then do a sight reading piece where I'm given 7 minutes to sing, clap , count, interpretive dance, do whatever it takes to get them to understand enough about this new music to be able to play it back as flawlessly as possible for the judging panel. They can't practice it or anything- just sit there and listen and mime the motions of playing. So tough day, for sure. My BF came over last night to cook fajitas with me, and just have a nice relaxing evening. He knows this is easily the most stressful day of my year. :) Crossing fingers that the bus drivers don't eff it up again.

We went to an Irish festival over the weekend- that was fun! I saw the biggest dog- an Irish wolfhound. Wow. Very cool. I was browsing through some corsets when one of the workers turned around and I recognized her face. Couldn't put face to name or place where I knew her, so we both just kinda stared at each other awhile. At first I thought it was this crazy woman I unfortunately happen to know, because looking at this lady's face made me vaguely angry. I knew she was someone I didn't like. But I remember her horsey looking face and realized this woman wasn't her. I finally asked her a series of questions and she was monosyllabic in reply and of no help whatsoever. We finally left (sans corset sadly) but I kept puzzling over who she was. About 2 hrs later we're walking along and I shout out STARBUCKS! Matt looks at me funny and asks if I'd like a coffee. (LOL- his expression was hilarious.) I said that the woman is from Starbucks- she used to be a barista at my local shop and she's the rude one who never would repeat my order back to me, and often as not got it wrong. (I'm one of those people who order the extra crap that makes people roll their eyes.)

Anyway, glad I placed a face with a place. And now I'm off to kiss Matt goodbye, eat a cinnamon roll and head off to class. Contest in a few hours! Eek!! Luckily we're coming prepared.

clapping and counting? Surely that can't be too hard. Good luck with the contest.\r \r Irish Wolfhounds are so cool. I'd love to have one, but really, you kind of need a moor for them to run around in. My tiny yard just wouldn't do.\r \r I have this strange mental image of a woman's blog (maybe on 2old2knit)...she's talking about going to an Irish festival and running into a crazy woman who looked familiar. A couple hours later, she remembered it was the lady who always ordered the double tall soy mocha venti latte macchiato caramel frappucino when she was a barista at Starbucks and would always leave a $.10 tip. :-P

I honestly don't know. I don't understand the Starbucks thing. They look at me crosseyed when I walk in there and say \"large coffee black\".

Good luck!!! \r \r My old band teacher used to give us the most ridiculously difficult peices he could find to sight read everyday. That way, by the time we went to competition, the pieces were so frickin easy we'd laugh and wonder if the judges were serious.
