Children of Men

I know it's a gaming site, but I rented Children of Men after seeing the previews and I wanted to discuss it. I really thought the concept was cool - it's 2029, and women have become infertile. The youngest person on the earth is 18 years old. Scientists don't know what caused the infertility, although there's speculation of gamma rays, pollution, etc. I don't think the movie mentions if animals have also become infertile. At the same time, the world has gone crazy with riots and terrorists everywhere.

The lead-actor is Clive Owen, a favorite of mine. He's a single guy working in England at a boring job and hangs out with a pot-growing friend on the side. While not wanting to spoil the movie, through a crazy series of events he comes into contact with a pregnant woman-the first such woman in many years. He takes on the mission of trying to get her to a safe place, while avoiding rebels and the government (the future's not very nice).

Suffice it to say that this is a pretty complex movie. You really need to pay attention to what's going on, which I know turned off some friends that had seen it. But if you put in the effort to follow the story, I think it's a great movie. The concept is very different, and seeing what the author (the movice was based on a book) imagined the near-future looking like was scary, although plausible given the state of things today. I thought the acting was very well done, and Owen's character was very compelling - what drove him to his current state, and then what drove him to help this woman he hardly knew in an effort to help mankind.

They had me right until the end. I won't spoil it for you, but for those who watched the Sapranos ending, I feel your pain. The movie really left me hanging at a point where it seemed like allot of questions were going to be cleared up. I know you're supposed to use your imagination in endings like this, but I really felt cheated at the end that I wouldn't know what happened. I was left yelling at my tv that "It can't end like that!".

Other than the ending, I think it was a very good movie and would recommend it.

Like you, I thought it was a pretty decent movie all around. The plot was a little hard to follow at points, and felt a bit scattered. Also, would agree with the less-than-stellar ending, but it was paletable.\r \r I'd recommend it as well, probably as an On Demand tho' I will likely rewatch it to see if there was some stuff I missed (most likely) in the first viewing.\r \r B.

I liked the concept of the movie (and Clive Owen!)...But I didn't like how the story was delivered.
