Business Casual
Today, for the first time in over 5 years, I wore a T-shirt to work. It feels weird. You see, the Marines instill in you a sense of what is proper dress for various situations.
In our company, when I first got hired, dress was "business casual." Meaning, khakis and a polo shirt.
Well, after the company went into Bankruptcy, management decided to relax the dress code and jeans were allowed. However, the dress code has eroded in the past year to where people are wearing T-shirts (which has been ok'd by management). I avoided wearing T-shirts, just because it didn't feel appropriate to wear Jeans and T-Shirts to work.
Lately though, I've noticed that people have taken advantage of the relaxing of the dress code. Ripped Jeans, flip-flops, and sandals without socks are becoming more and more apparent.
I think that looks like shit. But, I'm somewhat old school.
Yet, I'm wearing a T-shirt today. Why? Basically, I don't give a shit anymore. I hate this job. I've had one promotion and 1 merit increase in the past 5 years. I've survived 14-16 lay-offs. Yes, I still have a job, and yes, we were bought by a new company.
But, many of us agree. Same old company, different name.
Go figure.
