And so it begins...
Last week I saw a lawyer. I am now enlightened on what is involved in a Legal Separtation. In NC the law is that the property settlement is 50/50, unless otherwise agreed upon by both parties. And we have been separated ever since the day I moved into this apartment. I just don't have a paper saying so. And, a separation agreement is a contract, not a divorce. You must be separated for a year, then you can get a divorce, if desired. Whew, that was a difficult meeting and it has taken me days to even talk about it. Now, the next step.
This afternoon gilbert called to ask me out to dinner. It was like 5:30 and dinner was "get ready and let's go right now", like it always was. I declined. I really did! Then I told him I was all settled in. He wanted to know what that meant, so I took the opportunity to tell him I had seen a lawyer and was pursuing a legal separation. It went exactly the way one might think, with me being the bad guy and him throwing accusations and guilt at me. No different than before. He was ranting, and I was silent. Typical conversation between us. I finally told him I was happy and in control of my life. That's it! Well, there's a bit more, but that's a summary of how it happened.
I was on xbl with my friend, Dave, at the time, and poor guy, he got to listen to me go on and on about the whole thing. Thank you for understanding, Dave. You are a good friend.
That's all....
