Ahhh. Memories

These videos bring back bitter-sweet memories.

People ask me if I had the choice to re-do it, would I?  Hell yes.  I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for the USMC.  Would I enjoy boot camp again?  Hell no.  But if I had to do it knowing what I know now, it would be a hell of a lot easier.

I was flipping through the channels and ran across this on the Documentary Channel. Hell, I didn't know there was a Doc Channel! Anyway, I TiVo'd the show, it's called \"Ears Open, Eyeballs Click\" and it gave me wood. Talk about a blast from the past! My wife sat there saying \"There is no way I could handle that.\" I just chuckled, it's all about not wanting to fail, to accomplish the mission. God, I miss the Suck.

Um, yeah, I don't miss those days. The worst thing I can imagine now is thinking, moving, and acting like everyone else and mindlessly doing everything I'm told. Some if it's funny, sure, but I'm glad those days are behind me.

It's all just preparation for the real military.\r \r I never experienced anything like it in the Fleet.

I remember them chasing everyone out of the cattle trucks into the battery quad. They ran around like cattle dogs and shouted until we got into formation. Then the senior drill instructor came out and in a traditional military voice (what would sound like angry shouting to civilians) said, \"On behalf of the Commanding General, the Battalion Commander, the Battery Commander, the First Sergeant, and myself, I'd like to welcome you to Fort Sill, Oklahoma!\" It was by far the least pleasant welcome I've ever received.
