A better day
Today was better. I keep repeating this in my mind:
"When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul."
"Praise the Lord, O my soul.” Psalm 146:1"

History:\r
\r
This hymn was written after two major traumas in Spafford’s life. The first was the great Chicago Fire of October 1871, which ruined him financially (he had been a wealthy businessman). Shortly after, while crossing the Atlantic, all four of Spafford’s daughters died in a collision with another ship. Spafford’s wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, “Saved alone.” Several weeks later, as Spafford’s own ship passed near the spot where his daughters died, the Holy Spirit inspired these words. They speak to the eternal hope that all believers have, no matter what pain and grief befall them on earth.\r
\r
Amen and Amen
The rest of the song pertains as well:\r
\r
\r
\r
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,\r
Let this blest assurance control,\r
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,\r
And hath shed His own blood for my soul.\r
\r
\r
Chorus\r
\r
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!\r
My sin, not in part but the whole,\r
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,\r
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!\r
\r
Chorus\r
\r
For me, be it Christ, be it Christ hence to live:\r
If Jordan above me shall roll,\r
No pang shall be mine, for in death as in life\r
Thou wilt whisper Thy peace to my soul.\r
\r
Chorus\r
\r
But, Lord, ‘tis for Thee, for Thy coming we wait,\r
The sky, not the grave, is our goal;\r
Oh trump of the angel! Oh voice of the Lord!\r
Blessèd hope, blessèd rest of my soul!\r
\r
Chorus\r
\r
And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,\r
The clouds be rolled back as a scroll;\r
The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,\r
Even so, it is well with my soul.
One of my favorites:\r
\r
Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart;\r
Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art.\r
Thou my best Thought, by day or by night,\r
Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.\r
\r
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word;\r
I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord;\r
Thou my great Father, I Thy true son;\r
Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.\r
\r
Be Thou my battle Shield, Sword for the fight;\r
Be Thou my Dignity, Thou my Delight;\r
Thou my soul’s Shelter, Thou my high Tower:\r
Raise Thou me heavenward, O Power of my power.\r
\r
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise,\r
Thou mine Inheritance, now and always:\r
Thou and Thou only, first in my heart,\r
High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.\r
\r
High King of Heaven, my victory won,\r
May I reach Heaven’s joys, O bright Heaven’s Sun!\r
Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,\r
Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.\r
\r
God Bless.
