360 Sweetness
Well, I think I almost got everything configured how I want it.
I moved our old 5-disc DVD player (non-progressive scan) into our bedroom and made the 360 the center-piece of our entertainment center. I still have a few kinks to work out, like streaming the video or looking at pictures for instance. My computer is wired directly into my Fiber-router, while I set-up my 360 to run wirelessly which obviously requires a wireless router. Well, unless my computer is connected to the wireless router, the 360 won't be able to find my computer to be able to stream video or view pictures. No biggy.
Kink #2 is the suckage that is called .wmv. This is the only video format that the 360 will stream. I know it's Microsoft proprietary and stuff, but .wmv is the worst format ever.
However, I think I have found an end-around this. Joystiq has a page that takes you through a step-by-step process on how to transcode your DiVx and Xvid videos into a .wmv format with not a lot of quality lost. I'll give that a shot tonight.
I re-compressed a video of one of my TV shows from Xvid to .wmv using Windows Movie Maker. Bad move. The 360 found it after it had finished reformatting, but the quality sucked ass. Don't get me wrong, it was watchable, but just plain sucked. So I'll give the transcoding a shot.
Game Play:
Gears of War - Sweet game, great story line so far. Multiplayer - Sucks. No other word for it. I'm not impressed. "Lost Connection to Host" I saw this message 5-10 times in a row. Then, when I got into a game, I was a n00b so I was unsure what to do. I'd get kills, but not many. I noticed that usually the person with the most kills just ran around and shotgunned the other team. I'll notch this up to being unfamiliar with the game and the multiplayer aspect. Hopefully they'll fix the issues on this soon.
I didn't get any other games, but I have a buddy sending me a bunch that he has played an no longer plays.
I did try out a few demos... Rainbow 6: Las Vegas was fun, but I'll have to play it some more to adjust to it's multiplayer.
Burnout revenge - Funnest one I played. I played Burnout 3 on the 180 so I was familiar with the game. I'm not a big racing games fan, but I enjoy Burnout.
Other than that, a fine weekend, except I didn't play any Halo2 all weekend. :-( But I'll resolve that issue this week.
