An overdue update

Well, it's been two years since I have updated or shared news with you all. And some extremely exciting things have happened in the last 5 months that I wanted to share with everyone. I know some of you have read on Facebook but not everyone uses it. My apologies for keeping somein the dark.

First, back in February Megan had mentioned to Stacy that she thought that maybe she didn't need her feeding tube anymore. She was still doing her 24-7 feeds on her machine, but felt that she just didn't need it anymore. She was turning 7 at the end of the month (a miracle in and of itself) and didn't think she needed it. So, Stacy and I prayed about it, talked about it and prayed some more. Meg had her 7 year check up at the end of March and we thought we would bring it to her GI doc's attention then. So, March 28th came and we went to the doc and, thinking we were going to be there all day pleading our case, mentioned to him that we were thinking and Meg had mentioned about coming off her feeding machine. Permanently. He glanced at her chart for a minute and simply said, "Ok." We were floored. He said she had made some progress in her weight (she weighed in at 41 pounds), and said we would give it a go and check back, in 6 weeks to see if she maintained the weight. We came back in 6 weeks and she had lost half a pound. Not exciting news, but he said it was exprected. She had been on the machine for 7 years, a set back was expected. He said we would give it another 6 weeks, but this time she need to put something on, or we were going to go over other options. We came back in 6 weeks and she put on half a pound! The first time in her entire life she actually gained weight on her own. Meg had mentioned she had some trouble and discomfort swallowing certain foods, which prompted her GI doc to schedule an endoscopy to check fpr Eosinophilic esophagitis or EE for short. Well the day before the endsocopy they cancelled and let us know they had found an issue with her heart and set up an appointment with her cardiologist. Since they have to put her to sleep for the endoscopy they didn't want the potential issue with her heart to cause complications, You see, last time she was put to sleep 4 years ago, her left lung collapsed and we almost lost her. That being said, we were unaware of any issues with her heart. At her cardiologist appointment they informed us she had gained another pound-and-a-half! Bad news was, they sense her disease has moved into her heart and is currently wearing a heart monitor until the end of the month. They want to study the results to confirm any issues. However they said we could go ahead with the endoscopy the following week (last Friday), and there would be a cardiologist in the room with her. They took 20 biopsies from her throat into her duodenum, where they found an abnormality. They said they would be able to tell us in 10 days what the results of the biopsies were and if any cancer has developed in her stomach. With all the acid issues having pretty much torn up her throat and stomach, cancer is common.  BUT, in the week or so since her cardiologist appointment, the day of her endoscopy, we found out she gained ANOTHER pound. That is 3 pounds folks. 3 pounds she never gained on her own. 3 pounds from being self-sufficient eating on her own, which we were told she would never do. Never. Ever.

She has been able to participate in things she never could before. Playing at recess, on the playground. Participating in normal PE class, instead of having something special for her to do. Eating regular foods like our boys. On a consistant basis. God has blessed us and we are truly thankful for those who have been praying and continue to pray for her.

Here she is with her brothers on her Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World, at Christmas
