Meet the new 2old2play Editor-in-Chief, Tiffany “ElektraFi” Fary

Wed, 04/13/2011 - 14:06 — ElektraFi

Tiffany makes her first post as Editor-in-Chief! Read on for her introduction and learn more about her gaming background as well as how she first became a “gamer”.

Hey everyone! I suppose it’s about time I officially introduce myself! ;) My name is Tiffany and I am the newly appointed Editor-in-Chief here at 2old2play. I’ve been a 2old2play lurker since January 2010 and have personally met many of your existing staff at gaming events over the past year. Yes, and I still decided to accept this position even after meeting them. What was I thinking?!

As mentioned in the announcement in April, I have been a writer for RockBandAide.com, focused on providing Rock Band related content, for about a year now and helped to co-found DanceKinection.com, focused on providing Dance Central related content, last Fall. Needless to say, I love rhythm games! Besides rhythm games, I also enjoy FPS games on my Xbox 360, like the Halo series, and I’m a huge fan of the LEGO game series as well.

I am what many would consider as a late bloomin’ gamer. While I played video games from time to time growing up (which was mostly only when my brother decided to be nice and share his Atari), I would not consider myself as someone who grew up gaming. I didn’t discover my love for video games until adulthood. *gasp* I know this may be shocking to some of you, so feel free to sit down and take a breather before continuing.

My first purchased console was the black brick of a box called the Xbox. Wanna guess what my first “real” video game purchase was? If you guessed Halo 2, give yourself a pat on the back! I was amazed by the ability to socialize with people hundreds of miles away while at the same time getting to kill my boss from my “real job” and then laughing about it with him and other co-workers the next day. And just like that, I fell madly in love with gaming and of course, Master Chief!

From there, things just spiraled. Over the next few years, I would play with a group of co-workers and extended friends every Thursday night and then it turned into Friday nights and then Saturdays nights, and...well, you get the idea. I also discovered the GamerChiX group around this time on Xbox.com which eventually led me to the PMS Clan. In the PMS Clan, I was active in Halo 2, Left 4 Dead, Rhythm Games and Bioshock 2 divisions at certain points over the past 3+ years and I held a variety of management positions within those divisions.

Being part of a clan and spending so much time with friends online, I realized that I wanted to meet these people in real life. That was the ultimate trigger for me to start attending gaming events such as PAX East and then of course the first Gamers Gone Wild Party in 2010! GGW was my first real introduction to all the craziness that is known as 2old2play. Just because we’re older doesn’t mean that we don’t know how to play or how to have fun! Anyway, fast forward through a lot of other stuff, and here I am today.

With 2old2play, I am ready to demonstrate my passion for gaming and to help to bring all of you the content you desire. We have a lot of great things in the works including the site upgrade, so stay tuned, 2old2play is going to blow you away!

New Terms Of Service

Sat, 04/09/2011 - 14:17 — doodirock

After a long talk with the community we are finally done with our new Terms of Service for 2old2play. Please read it over and post any feedback within the announcements forum.

As always you can find the terms of service at http://www.2old2play.com/rules/TOS.pdf.  Feel free to comment on the TOS and help us to come up with new ways to make this community a better place.  Thanks again for the community support.

2old2play Terms of Service

You must read this agreement in its entirety before signing up with 2old2play.  By entering 2old2play and viewing its content you agree to all rules and requirements stated in this Terms of Service.

Age and Restrictions

2old2play is a community that is dedicated to the 25 and older gamer. Our site is here as a place for these gamers to meet with others in their age group and come together online. We have the right to refuse any member that is not within our age limits as it would take away from the meaning of our site. We respect our members’ frustration with the younger gaming crowd and know that it is imperative to keep 2o2p within the standards of age limits that have been set. That being said, anyone found to be under the age of 25 will be removed from the site without warning.  As a private site, 2old2play also reserves the right to deny any person access to its content regardless of age. Come back when you’re 25!

Blogs, Forums, and General Posts on 2old2play

2old2play offers members multiple ways to voice your opinions.  It hosts your pages, threads, and blogs all on the dime of 2o2p, free of charge.  We want everyone to feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with the community and genuinely want to know what our members have to say.  Your blogs are placed in the top banner of all 2o2p pages and are seen by thousands of readers.  Forum posts, clan pages, submitted stories can often hit our homepage and your ideas can reach millions of others.

With that said, we need your help to ensure the content is of the quality that we expect on 2o2p from an adult atmosphere.  Put simply, DON’T BE A DICK.

Racists, Elitists, Dicks, and Jerks

Being over 25 does not mean you are mature.  In fact here at 2old2play we pride ourselves on good-natured ribbing.  However that is not a license for members to become forum trolls, elitists’ pricks, or closet racists. You agree to respect all members of 2old2play. While differences can and will arise, you agree to act in a civil manor. Anyone found to personally attack another member using, but not limited to, racism, hate, personal threats, vulgarity, will be dealt with according to the rules below. Repeat offenders risk removal from the site. While 2old2play cannot track off site or in game activity you are expected to treat each other with the same respect online.  Constant reports of in game issues can lead to member suspension.  This includes private messages, Forum, Blogs, Videos, Clan Pages, or any other member accessible area of the site.

Aside from the common sense rules above, our criteria for breaking the Jerk rule varies. An easy way to test yourself on whether you are being a jerk is simple.  First ask yourself, do I know this person?  Am I friends with them?  If the answer is no, then they probably will not understand your joke about their mom.  Play it safe rather than sorry.

What happens if I cannot help being a dick?

The first offense will generally be met with a 3-7 day “cool down ban” via Email, post, or PM.  If there is a second occurrence, especially within a short period of time from the first, the users account will go into admin review and be banned from the site.  There is no 3rd strike.  Banned users may appeal their block by contacting the community manager at admin@2old2play.com

Guide Lines to not getting banned!

1)    Don’t treat new members like crap.  2old2play is not an uber clique where new comers are looked down upon.  You were new here once too so make the effort to show people we are a community and not an elitist cult.

2)    Don’t use blogs to spout hate, racism, spam, or drama. We want everyone to have a chance to blog but double posting, spam, and hate blogs just clutter up our front page.  We don’t have a lot of rules on our blogs, so please respect these few.

3)    Keep the Not Safe For Work stuff NSFW.  We don’t want nudity in our content unless properly tagged with NSFW in the correct location.  No one wants to lose their job over a sweet pic you took of your nuts so DON’T DO IT.  There are NSFW buttons on all blogs and a specific forum for NSFW in the main forums.  Use them!

4)    Don’t troll posts with nonsense. Trying to deter a post from its original point makes it hard for people to follow.  It risks breaking up a good conversation for no reason other than to make you giggle.  Dick.

5)    Causing unnecessary drama, being a negative douche, inciting post wars and creating multiple accounts get you a free ban!

6)    Never post any content as “Offical 2old2play Work” if you do not work directly for/with 2old2play or without our consent.  We worked hard to build 2o2p and make sure that all our images, content, and ideas are looked after.

7)    Do not plagiarize.  If you didn’t write the words yourself then give credit where credit is due.  Always cite your work and give example (hello 5th grade).  Remember ownership is a tricky thing and we don’t want lawyers knocking on our doors so we have no problem sending them to yours.

8)    Do not use 2old2play to recruit for your own personal site.  Without a mass of gamers 2o2p cannot function as a community.  We do not tolerate poaching in any form.

9)    These guide lines can and will grow, but the bottom line is think before you post.  If you have any doubt in your mind that you may post something stupid, simply don’t post it.

10) DON’T BE A DICK!

Copyrighted Materials and other legal stuff

You understand 2o2p cannot police every private clan forum and therefore is not responsible for any copyrighted material that is posted by its members.  You understand that all content produced by members or posters not employed directly by 2old2play is the property of that poster and 2old2play cannot be held liable for such content. You agree that 2o2p will not be held liable for any material found to infringe on any local or federal laws.   Said material will be immediately removed as well as the member’s username and password.

Spam

You agree not to post any unsolicited ads, news, and links without the express permission of 2old2play.com. Violators will be removed from the site without warning. We respect your right to free speech, but not when you are only using our forum to sell something. This goes for any and all gaming sites, forums, products, etc. You agree to never use 2o2p bandwidth to host off site content including but not limited to photos, articles, videos, post, etc. Any content on 2o2p is solely owned by 2o2p and may not be redistributed without express written consent from 2old2play.com.

This Terms of Service can and will change.  Check back often.

Meet the 2old2play Community Liaison - Geekboy

Sun, 03/27/2011 - 18:08 — doodirock

In keeping with our mission to bring more community events to the public and 2old2play, we have brought on a couple familiar faces to help us reach our goal. Welcome, Geekboy.

Hello Everyone! I am Geekboy aka LaLa Calamari. I became a 2o2p member back in January 30th, 2007. I found the site through an article on Digg.com. I never could get into XBox Live as I could not tolerate the Timmies. I actually have a launch date XBox 180. I signed up for Live and that lasted about a month. I then got a 360 and stumbled upon 2o2p. I instantly fell in love with the site, it was so nice gaming with people my age. I've since had a full friends list and all are members from the site.

Like most of you, I'm getting old and havee been gaming since Pong. I grew up in the arcades and with my Atari 2600. Consoles I've owned are a NES, Sega Genesis, Sony PS1, Dreamcast, XBox 1, and the XBox 360. I even ventured into WoW for over a year.

About a year ago I became a moderator here at 2old2play. I felt that I should pay back to the community, as I would not have XBox live if 2o2p did not exist. I also have been involved and helped organize a lot of the 2o2p Community events including the MML, Community wide playdates, and Xbox Live Community Playdates.

One of my goals as Community Liaison is to help the site grow. To help the clans of the site to interact more and game together. I'm also looking at running more playdates for various games. And finally, to help the main forums become more active.

Please feel free to PM me with any questions, news or if you’d like help running an event. Also, be sure to follow my Twitter @lalacalamari as I will update it with site wide info. I look forward to making 2old2play even more interactive in the future.

Welcome 2old2play's New Editor-in-Chief

Tue, 03/22/2011 - 13:53 — doodirock

We wanted to take this time introduce our new 2old2play Editor-in-Chief, Tiffany "ElektraFi" Fary!

ElektraFi has been a fixture of the gaming community for years as one of the lead writers for RockBandAide.com. The site has grown to become the largest fan-based site/blog focused on the Rock Band franchise. Following this success she helped to co-found DanceKinection.com and continues to act as editor and writer on both publications.

This experience and passion for gaming is the exact reason we are so excited to announce her as our Editor-in-Chief here at 2old2play. We believe her knowledge and organizational skills will help to bring quality older gamer content to the community of 2old2play. Under her direction we hope to see a lot more meaningful discussion, new media, and editorials aimed at the older gamer demographic. Weclome ElektraFi!

Follow ElektraFi on twitter!

As always if you are a writer and want your voice heard please do not hesitate to apply for the 2old2play team at jobs@2old2play.com!

Meet and Join The Staff of 2old2play

Fri, 03/11/2011 - 13:39 — doodirock

With 5 plus years in the gaming community, the 2old2play team has gone through a lot of changes. We think it's time to reintroduce our staff and maybe find some new ones.

As many of you know we started 2old2play back in April of 2005 as a place for our clan to call home. Joel "Doodirock" Albert had built the site over a long weekend with the intension of housing the 30 plus friends he had met online in Halo. Since then the site has grown to more then 47 clans and over 20,000 members.

From beginning to present the life blood of our growth has been our community and most importantly our staff. We have managed to work with some of the best community leaders any gaming website could hope for and today wish to introduce you to a few of the people that make this place run. You will notice some positions may be changing, but our goal remains the same. We want to create the best "older gamers" network on the planet.

The Team

  • Joel "Doodirock" Albert - CEO and Lead of 2old2play's future development
  • Derek "DSmooth" Nolan - CFO and Lead of 2old2play's growth in the gaming marketplace
  • Taxisquad27 - Admin of 2old2play and daily operations
  • Drost - Admin of 2old2play and daily operations
  • Brian "Fire" Mowell - External Community Manager
  • Dane "Waterborn" Tullock - Events Coordinator
  • Mike "Lbsutke" Coppola - Lead Moderator

The Mods

  • Donk2o2p
  • Dixon_Tufar
  • Rock
  • RogueRedneck
  • SoupNazzi
  • Spooky
  • ThyEnemy
  • Geekboy

The Future

As some of you can tell we have new additions to the 2old2play family while others have changed roles. We welcome Fire to the new Community Manager position as well as Waterborn in his new role of Events Coordinator. If any of you have been to a Gamers Gone Wild party you know that this a great change for 2old2play and its future in the world of 2old2play meet-ups.

Drost is also switching his role as Editor for 2old2play and instead is helping us with the day to day operations here on the 2old2play web site. His focus will be the expansion of 2old2plays content base and helping to make sure 2o2p runs as smooth as possible.

The Gaps

All of these changes also leaves us with some gaps. This means 2o2p is going to be on the look out for older gamers with a passion for community in the very near future.

Editor: First and foremost we will be on the look out for a full time Editor in Chief. This person would need to work with writers on a daily basis and help put up the best possible content to reflect our community. If you fancy yourself a wordsmith and have some free time we want to hear from you!

Writer: If you think you can produce at least 1-2 stories a week for 2o2p then you may be perfect for 2old2play. We want writers and reviewers with their own voice. We don't need rehashed news from other sources, but instead want each piece on 2old2play to reflect our community and the voice of the older gamer. Think you can do it? Will make you E-famous!

Video/Audio Content: We need weekly content in both Audio or Video for our front page. Have a show you would like to get up on 2o2p? Think it relates to our audience? We want to show it! 2old2play can help produce and distribute the content to our viewers. Hit us up!

As you can see the 2old2play family is growing every day, and we hope to continue for years to come. If you think you can handle any one of these jobs please send us an email at jobs@2old2play.com and tell us a little about yourself. If you have any sample, show them off! We hope to hear from you all soon.

2old2play Vs PMS: The results

Thu, 03/10/2011 - 21:12 — XF1R3X

On Saturday April 9th the PMS clan Halo division and members of 2old2play got together for a night of fun, laughter, and some of the craziest game types I have ever played.

We started the night with a Free For All and had 12 people on Zealot (Yes 12 people on Zealot1). After the free for all we moved to team games. We mixed the teams with members from both communities and the chaos that was Halo Saturday night began. We played games ranging from MLG CTF on Sanctuary to crazy maps that throw golf balls of death at you. We had a blast with fiesta starting weapons, DMR, and golf clubs. I don’t think I have laughed that hard playing Halo in a long time.

I want to give a big thank you to the gals over at PMS and to all the members who showed and played. It was a night full of fun and laughs. Can’t wait to do this again!

P.S. Be on the lookout for more community challenges and mixers for Halo, Call of Duty, and other games our community is playing. If you have a suggestion for a community mixer or challenge, make sure you send a private message to XF1R3X for more information.

2old2play Vs PMS this Saturday!

Mon, 03/07/2011 - 11:18 — XF1R3X

This Saturday night 2old2play staff and members will face off against the fearless PMS gals in what is sure to be an epic night of Halo combat. As it stands now 3 rooms of 4v4 will face off in an epic struggle of blazing DMR battles and frag nades galore. RAWR

Ok maybe it's not that serious. PMS graciously asked 2old2play for some fun and social Halo matches and we were more than happy to accept. 2old2play and PMS will be playing in 3 rooms of customs, ranging from MM settings to Custom Carnage to whatever crazy settings we come across.

Saturday should be a great night and if you are interested in playing please go to the Halo forums and sign up (http://www.2old2play.com/forum). We will be doing our best to rotate members in and out of rooms so everyone can get a chance to play that signs up.

Gamers Gone Wild Raises $2000 for Childs Play Charity from Tron Console

Wed, 02/23/2011 - 16:44 — doodirock

The Tron Console was a huge success at PAX and on the site as 2old2play, SFX_360, and Emminentt help to raise over $2,000 for the Child's Play Charity. Read on to hear who won!

If you still didn't get a chance to check out our first Community Pulse Vidcast we took the time at the end of the show to draw from over 400 purchased raffle tickets for the winner of the custom Omega Case Mods created Tron Xbox 360 Console.  The offcial winner has come forth to claim his prize and it's none other then Brian Dowd (Taxisquad27) from the 2old2play community.   Congratulations to him and thanks to all the people on 2old2play and at PAX who took the time to spend a little cash for Child's Play.

To those of you who didn't win I hope you know how greatly appreciative we all are here at 2old2play and Childs Play.  The money you helped raised will go directly to improving the lives of children with toys and games in their network of over 60 hospitals worldwide. Also a special thanks to Stefanie Barton and her unbelievable sense of generousity and charity as she single handlely donated over $850.00 to the raffle.  Without people like her we wouldn't have been able to make this event the success it was.

To everyone directly involved with the console I thank you again.  Omega Case Mods is a true artist and should be someone to look out for in the near future of product design and custom case art.  Seriously, someone hire this man.  Also a special thanks to the PMS gals that took the time to watch over the console on the PAX floor and at the Gamers Gone Wild event.    I hope you know your kindness didn't go unnoticed and everyone at 2oldplay thanks you.

We hope you all enjoyed this raffle and with its success we fully plan on doing more special custom gaming gear in the future.  Remember, even if you didn't win you helped an unbelievable cause.  If you would like to donate directly to the charty head on over to Childsplaycharity.org and find out how you can help.  We hope to have images of the winner with the console and our donation up in the coming week so stay tuned!

Here is your chance to win a pair of tickets for the opening night screening of Sucker Punch on March 25th at 9:30 pm at the Jordan’s Furniture Reading IMAX Theater.

Sucker Punch is the new movie written and directed by Zach Snyder (300, Watchmen & 2004’s Dawn of the Dead). With her life and sanity in the balance, Baby Doll must succeed on her quest or be subjected to the numbing reality of a life after lobotomy.
