For those of you not aware, 2old2play was prominently featured in The Wall Street Journal this morning. While the article tended to focus on our age and inability to keep up with younger gamers, our leaders Joel “Doodirock” Albert, Derek “DSmooth” Nolan, and Tiffany “ElektraFi” Fary kept the article focused on the site, rather than our age. The Wall Street Journal wisely edited LBSutke out of the article.
I don’t believe that we are too old to compete, but we are too wise to play with children. Gamers are aging, whether we like it or not, and while we are not ready for the retirement home, we realize that gaming is more fun when you play with grown ups. Thanks again to our wise elder council for presenting the site as a place for adults to play. Awesome job, gang!

Very Awesome!!!!!
They had a nice sized write up for 2o2p as opposed to the other sites/groups they were talking about!

Yeah, It was really nice to get the by-line too. I'm happy to see more people taking interest in our demographic!

Nice, that's pretty cool. Might encourage people to look for adult communities, I'm sure some hadn't even thought to try.
One thing I thought odd about the article was that I thought Chromehounds shut down online play quite a while ago, didn't it?

Yes, those servers were closed a while ago. I'm not aware of any tournament competitions for Chromehounds either.

Hi guys, I was the author of the story. It seems most people liked it and I am grateful to hear that. It was fun to write.
Just to clarify, I think the Chromehounds beat-down referenced took place years ago, but the guy (one of the founders of geezergamers.com) was still stinging from it. He told me it nearly caused him to hang up his controller.
Anyway, I am sorry I was not able to name and credit other members of 2old2play, notably the writers of the editorials, since I referenced one. But we get a maximum of 1,000 words for these stories and I think I managed to capture a fair amount in that small space.
I am primarily a PC gamer now, but if you see a guy named Iggloo on XBL, know it is me, a fellow graying gamer of 42 years, with battle scars going back to the arcades, the NES, all the way to the current day. I am pretty sure I have played with some of you before, around the Tom Clancy: Rainbow Six: Vegas era.
Perhaps I will see some of you again sometime soon.

I was actually gonna warn you about talking to those "other people" but nobody would give me your contact information. I finally ended up talking to a guy in Toronto with the same name. Things got a little out of hand when I accused him of lying after he claimed he had no idea what I was talking about...so if you ever meet that other Bustillo guy, tell him Jones said "my bad."

Welcome to 2o2p, amigo. Scroll down the forums till you find some like-minded gamers, we play everything here and it won't take long to find folks who are playing what you're playing.

Good article that runs against the anti-gaming tide we see so often. :)

thanks for sharing that, Derek. I liked your comment and decided to leave one of my own:
"I'm also surprised at the strong opinions against gaming expressed in comments about this article. The gaming industry has grown considerably in the past couple of decades and it profitability currently rivals that of the motion picture industry. Gamers work, pay their taxes, own their own homes...all the same responsibilities of every other adult. We just have higher standards when it comes to entertainment."

the amount of ignorance is pretty amazing by some of the commenters. turns out we are all stupid, don't have jobs or families, don't read books and are incredibly lazy. It's time to start asking some difficult questions like who is that lady and small child that are always at my house, why do I own so many books and why does someone pay me to spend 50+ hours a week at an office? I'd look into this more but my brain is a soggy mess from playing video games and um er i uhal aiae2[oiuajc'.,m drool

Hmm let me see...Degree in music and media technology, library of some 500 books, married, martial artist, and play racing games...oh okay some others too. Seems to me I don't have time to be stupid or lazy, though I do try my best.
I think that guy may just be talking out his rear end, you know, like stupid and mentally lazy people do

Yeah, I just scrolled through that article and comments and was pretty surprised by them. Most claimed that not only games were bad, but entertainment period is awful, and all they ever do is work 300+ hours a week non-stop. Yet, oddly they had time out of their busy schedule to read an article on something they don't like, and found the time to comment and check back in on those comments on that article that has nothing to do with their lives as well. Man, it must suck being that busy....
Aside from that though, it was a great article!

Brilliant article, its taken its time but I think we're on the cusp of a big mature gamer scene exploding! You can't beat PR like that! Congrats!

I loved the article on WSJ. It’s refreshing to hear that there are mature gamers like myself. I joined the community and am looking forward to meeting female gamers
