New Releases: Week of May 14th

Mothers day! Did you forget? How did you manage to save the day? Are you totally doghouse-d now?  If you're a mom I hope your day went well. I really do...mom's go through and put up with a ton of shit day in and day out so they totally deserve a day of thanks. That being said, let's dig into this weeks games shall we?

Injustice 2
Release Date:
May 16th, 2017
Platforms: PS4, Xbox One

If Batman v. Superman took some queues from the original Injustice then maybe, just maybe, it wouldn't have sucked like it did. Although I think Henry Cavill did actually take some tips from uber brooding Supes in the original Injustice. From the pic above it looks like buzzkill Superman is back. It is actually a little funny that Injustice 2 is out shortly after mothers day given BvS's "Wait your mom is named Martha?! Mine too! We can be best friends now" bullshit. I so wanted that movie to be awesome but it just sucked. Good news is, the Injustice series is so much button mashing fun for me, it almost makes me forget...almost.

The Surge
Release Date:
May 16th, 2017
Platforms: PC, PS4, Xbox One

Third person action RPG, The Surge, lands on Consoles and PC this week. Set in a semi-standard Sci-Fi universe but The Surge looks less stereotypical shoot-em up and instead focus' more on melee combat. This could be a pretty cool concept and from the trailer looks like it could be a lot of fun! I have been jonesing for Diablo III lately but it requires getting off my ass and changing disc's. I have grown to hate changing disc's and I think I may never buy a disc based game again. What does that have to do with The Surge? Nothing...just a side rant...move along.

Farpoint
Release Date:
May 16th, 2017
Platforms: PSVR

If you are a PS4 owner and haven't splurged on PSVR yet, I think Farpoint may be the gateway drug for you and for others. It doesn't solve the lower resolution issues or the required gameplay area and it requires the new Aim controller but damn it does look cool! If you haven't read Ready Player One, do it and then ask me why I don't want anything to do with VR. Even when it looks fun as hell.

Fire Emblem Echoes: Shaows of Valentia
Release Date: May 19th, 2017
Platforms: 3DS

Released in Japan back on April 20th, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia is actually a remake of the 1992 game Fire Emblem Gaiden. I have complained about sequel-itis before but would it kill studios to put some numbers on the back end of these games?! Naming the same game something different makes me appreciate the tacked-on tag "Remastered". The exception is the Final Fantasy games as those numbers are just totally screwed up.

I think I am starting to creep closer to "get off my lawn" stage...sigh.....
