New Releases: Week of May 1, 2016

It’s the first of May and we all know what Jonathan Coulton says about that...Although since it's rainy in New England and I have many PAX articles to write I’ve spent my day inside.  Taking a break from PAX writing to cover new releases this week.  Luckily it's kinda double duty since I saw a couple of these titles at the show! It's a bit of a slow week with other studios probably giving Gearbox/2K some room to release their new AAA title.

Battleborn

Release Date: May 3rd, 2016
Platforms: PC, PS4, XBone

Gearbox’s next big franchise post Borderlands hits consoles and PCs this week.  Will it live up to the hype?  PAX had kind of an Overwatch vs. Battleborn thing going on.  Overwatch had fancy Lamborghini Ubers you could actually get rides from and had the Penny Arcade guys battle live on Twitch at the show so I think they got advertising the edge there.  But Battleborn wins for first to market!  Is this going to be a big one for the 2old2play crowd?

Ray Gigant

Release Date: May 3rd, 2016
Platforms: PSVita

I frequently skip PSVita games when I’m on new release duty since I don’t know anyone that actually owns one and they don’t get much love from 2old2players.  But since I’m procrastinating on writing PAX articles this one makes the list this week! :p  It's a JRPG that focuses on story more than usual.

The Park

Release Date: May 3rd, 2016
Platforms: PS4, XBone

This first person psychological horror narrative game looks interesting.  I do love narrative and amusement parks but not so much psychological horror.  You play as a troubled mother whose son has gone missing in an abandoned amusement park.  It has an interesting mechanic where you can call out for him and the pitch of your voice will change with stress and trigger different things to appear in the game.

Kathy Rain

Release Date: May 5th, 2016
Platforms: PC

This one I played at PAX and immediately purchased when I got home.  It’s a mystery point and click adventure game set in the 90s that’s got lots of homage to Lucasarts favorites.  Looking forward to checking it out!
