New Releases: Week of January 18, 2016

 Happy MLK to all the geriatric gamers here at 2old2play! Some of us got a nice 3-day weekend, but some of us were stuck in a warehouse counting shit all weekend. Cest la vie. We are on the backside of January; the new releases are starting to roll out again, and we have a fair amount of new stuff. This week a blob eats a bowl of beans, Korea fights its way onto the PC, aliens are dicks, big houses have big problems, amnesia runs rampant, lots of sci-fi, and a bunch of remasters reappear. A Boy and His Blob

Release Date: January 19

 Labeled as a re-imagining of the original NES title, A Boy and His Blob is a platform puzzler where the boy feeds the blob jellybeans which allow the blob to change into a variety of useful shapes for solving specific puzzle problems. It looks kind of kid-centric, but it may push the nostalgia button for 8-bit Nintendo vets.

Blade & Soul

Release Date: January 19

Platform: PC

Blade & Soul  is a third-person martial arts MMORPG from Korean dev Team Bloodlust. The fighting mechanic utilizes the Unreal 3 engine, is centered around magic and combos, and has a "downed" feature that allows nearly vanquished players to fight themselves back into the action. Players can expect a high level of character customization as well as PvP and PvE action.

The Bug Butcher

Release Date: January 19

Platforms: PC, Mac, Linux

 In the side-scrolling and cartoony future, humans and aliens live in harmony. However, some aliens are dicks and need to be dealt with in the harshest manner possible. Players take control of a futuristic exterminator and put the hurt on on alien dicks from the future. We were supposed to see this one last summer, but Awfully Nice Studios took a few extra months to, presumably, deliver a polished product.

Darkest Dungeon

Release Date: January 19

Platform: PC

 Good news! You have inherited a mansion, congratulations. Bad news! You have to clear the horror-infested dungeon before you can claim the key. Red Hook Studios brings us a unique side-scrolling RPG that actually has me comparing game requirements against my PC's equipment. This might be the one that knocks the dust off my Steam account.

Gemini: Heroes Reborn

Release Date: January 19

Platforms: XB1, PC

A first-person RPG featuring a time-traveling female protagonist with special abilities and a family mystery to solve. This is a downloadable title on the XB1 and should cost around fifteen bucks.

Inside My Radio

​ Inside My Radio is a colorful rhythm platformer in the spirit of Amplitude meets...a platformer. Not really my thing, but if you have a PS4 and like rhythm games and techno you may want to give this one a shot.

KLAUS

Release Date: January 19

 KLAUS is a minimalist/artsy platformer inspired by games like Limbo and Thomas Was Alone. An office worker wakes up in a building with the word KLAUS tattooed on his arm and amnesia. It looks like you can pick up a hulk version office worker as another playable character.

Resident Evil Zero

Capcom has remastered their 2002 classic and released it to modern consoles. We shouldn't, but we're going to anyway.

 It's a Capcom double whammy: the aforementioned Resident Evil Zero remaster paired with the remaster of the first game. Fuck you, Wesker.

Stardust Vanguards

  Throwback week continues with this top-down shooter straight out of an 80s arcade. Stardust Vanguards is a four player competitive mech and ship gunner with some cooperative parts thrown in (space pirates, no less). So comb that feathered hair and load up the pocket of your Members Only jacket with tokens...it's playtime.

World of Tanks

Albedo: Eyes From Outer Space

Release Date: January 20

Platform: XB1

 This first-person PC sci-fi shooter/puzzler is making its way to XBL this Wednesday. The protagonist, a night watchman at Jupiter Research Facility awakens in the basement (stop me if you've heard this one) and has to puzzle and shoot his way out of an alien takeover.

Atelier Escha and Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky

 This is a port of the PS3 game, released in 2013...some kind of Japanese fantasy RPG that was popular enough to be made into an anime.

Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak

Release Date: January 20

Platform: PC

 Gearbox acquired the rights to this sci-fi RTS from THQ back in 2013. Deserts of Kharak  is the prequel to the other two (and recently remastered) Homeworld games. Set 114 years before the first game, warring desert factions are racing to investigate and explore the ruins of a wrecked spaceship.
