New Releases: Week of July 28, 2014

Releases are finally starting to pick up again, though mostly just updated games on newer platforms. Why oh why is it always my week to cover new releases when there’s new Last of Us game in the news? I think I’m like the one person in America that hated that game. I did finally get around to playing Beyond Two Souls, so I was hoping to have the defense that the game Ellen Page is ACTUALLY in is way better. Sadly, that game was even worse than The Last of Us, which is quite an accomplishment, to Quantic Dream’s credit.

The Room

Release Date: July 28, 2014
Platforms: Windows

What’s in the box?! This critically acclaimed game sold over 1 million copies on Android and iOs since its debut in 2012. Now its available for PC, with enhanced graphics and controls. I’m a fan of puzzle games but this seems to have minimal story and reminds me a bit of Myst which may have been the most boring game EVER (barely tops Last of Us). Although it would totally be worth it if the last box contains “A box of biscuits, a box of mixed biscuits, and a biscuit mixer.” (Kudos to the 4 people who get this reference)

Firefall

Release Date: July 29th, 2014
Platforms: PC

In closed beta since 2011, this game is finally “done” and officially released this week. Its a cinematic MMO shooter with story by Orson Scott Card, so I assume you get to run around destroying the homosexual agenda?

Lego Ninjago Nindroids

Release Date: July 29,2014
Platforms: Vita, 3DS

This game is a sequel to the 2011 Nintendo DS game Lego Battles: Ninjago, which follows the plot of the animated series. The game play mixes up puzzles and battles

Rogue Legacy

Release Date: July 29, 2014
Platforms: PS4, PS3, PSVita

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21glGbFUDbI[width=650,height=366]

This week all the Sony platforms are getting this indie game released for PC about a year ago. It’s a rogue dungeon game where each hero has some sort of genetic disability, like color blindness or ADHD. Nice old skool 8-bit graphics, this looks pretty cool.

The Last of Us Remastered

Release Date: July 29, 2014
Platforms: PS4

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaOWRvmtEFQ[width=650,height=366]

Somehow its always my turn to cover new releases when DLC or what not comes out for the Last of Us. Hate the game and HATE whoever’s stupid Nirvana cover they keep using for the promo materials. But if you’ve waiting for it to hit PS4 to play its finally here in all its visually stunning but ultimately boring and frustrating gameplay glory.

Pinball FX 2

Release Date: July 31, 2014
Platforms: XBone

Zen’s Pinball FX2 is finally available for the XBone on July 31st (that’s the PS4 trailer since they didn’t seem to bother with one for the XBone). If you’ve  been waiting for this platform you’ll get a copy of Sorcerer’s Lair free. Most of the other Zen titles are available for around $2.50. Updated features include 1080p at 60fps, worldwide tournaments, and new achievements.
