New Releases: Week of August 4, 2014

Mon, 08/04/2014 - 12:26 — ErinAS

Releases are still barely trickling in during the summer drought. Once again, we have nada for next gen and mostly ports from other platforms.

Sacred 3

Release Date: August 5th, 2014
Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360

See video

Co-op is king in the third installment of the franchise from Deep Silver. This hack and slash RPG requires you to bring a team along, whether it be online co-op with IRL friends or a trio of AI allies. You’re fighting enemies as a team as well as engaging in friendly competition with your party over who gets the most kills, etc.

Table Top Racing

Release Date: August 5th, 2014
Platforms: Vita

Originally released for iOS and Android this game is making its way to the Vita this week. According to the developer’s website:

Table Top Racing is a console quality, miniaturised combat-racer for gamers! If you ever used to love Micro Machines or Mario Kart, then this is for you. The cars are bonkers, the competition is fierce, the action relentless. Hook up against 4 'frienemies' over game centre or local wi-fi and battle for glory. Win coins, upgrade your vehicles and unlock new cars and challenges!

Bonkers huh?!  And I’m pretty sure that’s not how you spell frenemy, silly British people…

Ultra Street Fighter IV

Release Date: August 5th, 2014
Platforms: PC, PS3, Xbox 360

See video

This updated version was originally released in arcades in Japan earlier this year; adding 6 stages and 5 new characters.  For console and PC it’s both available on its own and as a DLC update to Super Street Fighter IV or Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. So, including plain old un-super Street Fighter IV, there are in fact now 4 versions of version 4.

Pretty fed up with these summer draughts. If we could just get one or two big releases during the warm months, they would make a kililng. Like when Red Dead Redemption came out in the summer and sold like crazy cuz there was nothing else for months.

Yeah you would think someone would be eager to fill the drought space and clean up!  My guess is a lot of it is the announce cycles for E3 and wanting to hit Christmas season.  Although really people are on vacation and kids don't have school.  I think summer could be almost as good as Christmas!
