Everything old is new again

Next-Gen Consoles take a step back in technology. They will only accept used games without any online passes. Developers of the rumored PS4 and XBox 720 have decided to listen to consumer complaints about backward compatibility and one up them. New games will no longer work out of the box. In-fact, Sony’s base model PS4 will have PS2 support and with Microsoft their original Xbox.

This may seem like a step back for Sony and Microsoft, giants in the industry, but inside sources have stated that “the goal has always been replayability”. Will consumers enjoy playing with last gen-graphics and gameplay mechanics? Another source at Nintendo, says “Welcome to the club”.

What does Midna smell like?

Nintendo has already proved they can keep gamers sense of touch occupied. With the 3DS they have tackled visual stimulation but now they are going to focus on another sense never before realised by video games: smell. The Nintendo 4DS (production code name) will feature a very innovative port that releases simulated smells during the course of game play.

Launch games include: Back to the Sewer (an HD remake of the original Mario Bros. game) and Chocobo Farm by Square Enix. Expected is a re-release of NintendoDogs.

EA Sports to release NHL Street

EA Sports has made a significant announcement to their well known “Street” series this week. They will be releasing NHL Street to capitalize on the street hockey market. According to an EA representative, “we want to recreate the feeling you had as a child playing street hockey with your friends.” Environments include rural streets, parking lots, and inground swimming pools. Main feature “Street Vision” will count on a gamer’s timing as they call out vehicles and miscellaneous diversions, such as cars and walk ons demanding to play,  in addition to properly calling “Game On!” when the diversion is properly addressed.
