Wii Hoarding

Many retail chains are locking up Nintendo Wii consoles for this weekend, Sunday.

Circulars are promoting "huge Wii stock" (read: around 20 per store) for this Sunday. This includes Best Buy, Circuit City, a bit from Target and probably others.

It is important to realize this isn't a huge Nintendo shipment arriving - it's a bunch of retail outlets holding back products they could otherwise have sold already to promote themselves. Don't assume this means the Nintendo drought is over.

Many people won't have Wii's because of business tactics to hold them back. One of our members went into Best Buy two days ago and as he was walking in two customers were walking out, Wii's in hand (get your mind out of the gutter). Excitedly, he went into the store and ran to the game department to be turned away.

Why? He was told "we sold all we could before this Sunday, the rest are being locked in the back." Yes, a customer was willing to purchase a product but the retail store was unwilling to sell them. Interesting tactic to raise mass hysteria on a Sunday morning.
