Sony Contest has Xbox360 Relegated to Back of the Store

Sony is playing dirty on the retail shelves with a recent promotion that rewards Gamestop and EB Games managers for the sale of Playstation 3 consoles and video games. This has caused the Xbox360 to be put at the back of some stores while the Sony products are showcased to the customers.

GamersReports is reporting (and apparently has the documentation to back it up) that Sony has given each EB and Gamestop store a target sales number to reach based on their April performance. Store Managers in each district compete with each other while the manager that exceeds Sony’s pre-set goal is declared the winner.

The reward is 20,000 points to use on the Sony rewards website for EB and Gamestop stores where they can purchase Sony games. The Manager of the top selling store across all the districts will receive an additional 10,000 points giving that manager 30,000 points total for the Sony rewards store.

So how many games can a store manager buy with 30,000 rewards points from the website? Inside sources say that a single game cost 3450 points each, so that’s five games with a 20,000 point reward and eight games for the one store that is the top seller and gets the 30,000 points. The games available for purchase on the rewards site are said to be NBA 07, Genji, Resistance and Motorstorm. Doesn't seem like much does it.

If you go into Gamestop or EB Games over the next month, have a hard time finding Xbox 360 stuff, and are pressured to buy Playstation 3, now you know why. We must admit, nice move Sony.
