How Much Would You Pay For #1?

by Tank| Published: Sunday, October 08 @ 18:49:37 EDT
How much would you pay to have the most Xbox Live Achievement Points? What if you could bypass all the hard work and just pay to become the #1 in the word? Now you can.

RANCE6, the current World #1 for Achievement Points, is selling off all his hard work to the highest bidder by auctioning his Xbox 360 hard drive, Live Account, and all the game saves on Ebay.

RANCE6 is 29 and lives in Italy where he owns a video game store. He purchased the Xbox 360 at launch, but mostly was interested in playing Japanese titles. Since the Xbox360’s Japanese title offerings were pretty weak at launch, only Ridge Racer interested him. It wasn’t long though before he discovered Achievement Points and the addiction soon took hold.

Being a competitive gamer, RANCE6 started out wanting to be #1 in Italy. He soon expanded his game play to include all Xbox 360 games in all regions (Pal, NTSC and Japanese). In fact, RANCE6 says he learned Japanese just so he could play their games. His Gamescore started to explode and quickly moved up the ranking leaderboards. After a while, he finally obtained the #1 spot in the world after taking down ST TheKing, the former title holder based in Canada.

A typical day for RANCE6 has him playing 10-15 hours. As such,he has put in an estimated 4,350 hours in the past 11 months achieving and holding the World #1 spot. It’s not uncommon for him to achieve all 1000 points for a game in a single day, and then move on to the next. With the ability to generate points like that, it’s no wonder his Gamescore is a few points shy of 81,000.

All good things must come to and end though. RANCE6 has confessed to being a hard core Playstation gamer in his Ebay ad. He has an Xbox 360 only to pass the time before the Playstation 3 launch. So now all his hard work and #1 World ranking can be yours if you have deep pockets. RANCE6 is retiring and is auctioning off his hard drive and Gamertag on eBay, which has a current price of $6,000 USD at the time of this article. All the recognition, glory and attention can be yours if you want it, he doesn’t take credit cards though so bring cash.

The auction ends Oct-11-06 09:23:48 PDT and 2old2play will be keeping track of the story to see if we can get a word from the winning bidder. More then anything I think this auction begs the questions of why. Why spend $6000+ dollars to have a gamer tag with points that are meaningless? Even in MMORPG's auctions of characters or in game gold will at least net you some enjoyment of those items in game. What could Achievements possible net you other then bragging rights?

Rance6' HDD is a collector's item. (Score: 1)

I think that the person who buys that HDD will be doing an investment, even. Here's hoping that Rance6 will sign the HDD before shipping it, so the new owner can then vacuum-seal the HDD and store it away for safekeeping.

In WoW, you can easily make out the people who bought their lvl60 chars. They usually don't have clue as to what they're doing. Makes them very lonely very quick. I don't think that's enjoyable at all.

They have save game files able to be transferred to your comp and then to your XBox. Anyone can get max points now. I don't understand why this is a big deal or why someone would pay so much money for something they can do themselves. At least I earned my 9k points.

While having 80K achievements points is impressive, why the hell would you buy this guy's HDD, for $6000 no less? What does it prove? Wow, you play a lot of games. Now you can get that job you've always wanted. And the girl. She'll really want you now that you have accumulated so many points. Never mind money, it's all about points. Jesus Christ...

Its not worth anything to me. I can see that there are people this would have great value to. Its just not me. I like working to get my gamerscore. I like playing games.

Sometimes its a strange world, and if this is your kind of thing go for it.

Wow, that is unreal... A typical worker in the US works 2,000 hours per year (50 weeks/year @ 40 hours/week). His videogame store must be doing pretty well and must be running itself. It sounds like he's got just enough time left over each day to eat, hit the bathroom a few times, sleep, and research new games to play. Maybe I need to tell my wife about this guy - she fusses at me for trying to squeeze in 10-15 hours of gaming per week.

As far as the item itself goes, I can't see it as being more than a collectors item. You'd be crazy to try to utilize the account once you purchased it (unless you were one of his close rivals), because there's not very many people that would be able to keep up his gaming momentum.

Even then, what have you got? Achievement points have no other value than bragging rights - they're worth practically nothing when you didn't earn them yourself.

Good for him that he had the time to put in to get that sort of game score.
I would pay if that came with 4,350 vacation hours :)

Why oh why would you want this HDD? If someone gave it to me i'd probably erase it to have all the space unless I thought I really could get 5 or 6 thousand for it. Who the hell cares about gamerpoints anyway...at least this much? I have 710 I think, I never tried to get them they just appeared...who cares lol. I play Halo 2 still more than anything, Halo 3 might be the first game ever I care to even try to get all the points in. I can't believe this guy is really a hard core Playstation guy, um....all those wasted hours of his life getting all the points and hes hardcore playstation? Oooook lol.
