Halo 3 Caption Contest Winner!

After 26,463 reads and over 8,000 entries, we have finally settled on the top 5 captions for the Halo 3 Legendary Give-a-way Caption Contest.

This event marked our first attempt at a site wide (including non-members) contest and by the looks of the numbers I must say it was a smashing success. I would just like to thank all the people that sent in their captions and while 8,000 was a lot to read over one weekend, it was still a lot of fun.

What surprised us the most was how many of the entries were similar to each other. Out of all these anonymous people I would have to say about 45% of them had parallel themes and ideas. Of course what we wanted wasn't just a caption that was funny, but also unique. So below I have laid out the top 5 recurring themes and ideas that we had to read over and over again.

1. No Entry At All: The biggest (and most boring to sift through) influx of emails came from those that simply sent an email with an address on it. We couldn't believe how such a large majority of people did not read the contests title or understand what the contest was about. Even more surprising was how many of these same people would give us an address without even being chosen to win. Quite the mixture of over trusting and ADHD. Needless to say, these were trashed instantly. Sorry, but if you can't even give us a caption we can't give you free stuff.

2. Duck Duck Goose: As mush as we liked the idea of the Duck Duck Goose joke, we saw it about every 6th email that we got. I will say that some of you took Duck Duck Goose to a whole other level and I hope you find the therapy that you so obviously require. Sorry Duck Duck Goose fans. We had to pass.

3. Movie Quotes: If I have to read one more Ron Burgundy quote from the Anchorman I think I will have to hang myself right now. While some quotes were spot on, we wanted something unique and from your own mind in order to make it to the top caption spot. Needless to say Anchorman and Office Space were not on that list. Sorry movie fans.

4. Sodomy, Bestiality, Rape Oh My!: Lets just say there are a lot of sick people out there. While some of the captions were funny in that "Not Safe For Work" kind of way, others were enough to make me want to jump up from my keyboard and take a long hot shower in order to wash the filth off my body. All I can say to these caption are WOW. This goes for the "didn't know she was your sister" and "i thought she was 18" quotes.

5. Knife to a Gun Fight: This is probably the best of all the repeated quotes simply because it fits so well. I was sad to have to skip over so many of them after a while, but in the end it became the most repeated theme in all the emails. Bonus points go to those who thought of it though. It was the same thing I thought of when I picked the image.

Beyond those, we had a lot of other quotes that were either the same or very similar. So if you think your quote was really great, chances are that it was. The problem was that it was so good that someone else also thought of it too. In fact, out of the 8,000+ emails it was really hard to find something that was completely unique. In fact I'm sure that even the top the we chose were probably sent my someone who's email either didn't make it in or somehow got looked over. We had so many entries that 5 times during the week we held the contest our email server crashed. We did more then 3 gigs in emails and are still receiving new ones well after the contests end date on the 2nd.

The Winners

For those of you that did make it into our servers and were able to come up with something that we thought was unique, funny, or shocking, we placed you in the best of list. In the end, only 20 people made that list which was then voted down to the top ten list you see below you. The winner will receive his/her copy of Halo 3 Legendary Edition sent to his home while the runner up will walk away with the regular edition. So without further adu I bring you the top ten list and our 2 winning entries for the The Halo 3 Caption Contest.

3. "With their attention focused on Master Chief, the aliens finally stopped making fun of Bill for wearing his sister's pink hand-me-down body armor."
4. “I‘m just saying you'd think they would have grown out of that whole coordinating outfit / twin phase by now. I mean honestly, they look like robot bees, and don't get me wrong–I love bees, but at some point you have to ask yourself… they're right behind me aren't they?”
5. I'm glad y'all brought your energy shovels, 'cause this sandcastle ain't gonna build itself.
6. "Needles! Waste the rainbow..."
7. "Great. They install an AI, shields and a HUD in this armor and what I really need now is a pair of Depends!"
8. "Chief, we're your friends, and we're concerned about your self-destructive behavior, so we all have some things we'd like to tell you..."
9. Hey you're in my personal bubble!!
10. "'Cause this is Thriller! Thrill..." No dammit, stop. It's step-step-SLIDE-step-turn!

Congratulations to the top two who will receive their Halo 3 prize 1-2 weeks after they have confirmed their winnings via email. Remember, if you do not claim your prize one week after we send out our emails the prizes will go to the next person in line.
