What are all these join www.xbox-profile.com (playfire.com) messages I've been receiving over XBLive?

I'm starting to think it isn't my friends who've sent them.

I got one as well, the best thing for people to do that have been sent that message is to reply and let then know their account has been hit.

I got the message. A friend went to check out the site and it requested that he send an invite to friends. He declined, but the message went out anyway. It's spam.

Yeah I got one of those from Rattlesnake316. Profile showed he was a 2o2p member, so I don't know if he sent it on purpose or not.

Ive gotten 3 of them now from 3 different ppl on my friends list, all of whom are 2o2p members. Starting to think it originated from someone on this site somewhere.

Not a big deal really, it hasnt infected my 360 or anything, just hit X and delete them.

Hey guys,

This is Kieran O'Neill here, CEO at Playfire.com. I just want to say that it's not spam or anything dodgy like that.

Playfire is a social network for gamers, and we've added a feature where you can get a profile with lots of cool Xbox Live updates on it. You can claim your profile, but in order to do that you need to verify it's really you (we've had people claim profiles which weren't theirs). You authenticate by logging into Xbox Live (we don't store ANY of the info, as it says on the page). If you prove it's really you, we give you the option of inviting your friends, who then get a profile too.

That's it really. Hubristes, if you're friend didn't choose to send the invite, we don't send it (there's no way we CAN, as the way it's coded PMs are only sent if a validated user pressed the button).

Anyway, sorry for all the confusion, if you guys have any advice on how we can make it better let me know. Feel free to email me personally on kieran at playfire dot com.

Happy gaming!

P.S. Speatleyson, did you receive more than 1 PM from different people? You should have, you should only ever get max 1. Please confirm. Thanks!

The friends I received the XBLive message from didn't know they were enabling the transmission of additional messages to people on their XBL friends list. Is this possible? Is the default answer "yes". If it is, please change it to "no".

Suddenly receiving a bunch of messages like this on XBL is quite disconcerting for some people (me).

So far I've only received one message per GT per XBL account.

No, I will not send you a personal email because then you would have my email address and I don't want you to have it, yet. Rolling Eyes

What I mean is, to your gamertag, have you received more than one invite at all?

As a recipient we've limited it to only ever receiving 1 message, as it would be annoying to get flooded by them.

Thanks for helping out Smile As I said, we're just a bunch of gamers who built a site we want gamers to use an enjoy.

I received one each from the same three people on three different XBL accounts of mine to which they are friends. Thus I have recieved three per GT.

Ah okay, there's no way we can protect against that scenario, as there's no way we'll know it's you behind all three! Smile

Yes you can prevent it. Once your database has the information that a GT has been contacted once then that GT should never be contacted again. Otherwise a XBLive account is getting spammed and then reported.

We only ever contact a GT once. My understanding is your have 3 different gamertags that were contated. Each one was only contacted once. I might be misunderstanding the situation?

Each of my GTs (XBLive accounts) was contacted 3 times.
