I forgot how to tell if theres a Falcon 360 in the packaging. I tried to find the post on it but I can't.

Help a brother out? Very Happy

Clan member bought an arcade unit last night and says its a falcon but when he told me how he identified it I got confused and blew a brain gasket.

Thanks for any help.

I believe the easiest way is to look on the back of the box. If it says 175 watts (not 203, or something like that), then it's the newest chipset.

However, the new falcons are also showing up in boxes that said 203watts.

I'm not sure on the other ways to tell.

We purchased a new 360 for our oldest this past Christmas and it had no wattage listed on the back of the box. Confused Best buy had a big stack of the 360s in the middle of the main isle in the store and looked at a good 20-25 and they were all this way. When he took it out of the box it was a 175W unit so that was good. Very Happy

Here you go, all different ways to tell if you don't have the wattage listed on the box

Some of it would apply, not the stuff specific to the packaging though.

But if you sent your box in for repair, you're going to get a refurbished one back that most likely will not be falcon anyway so it doesn't really matter. You could end up with anything, most likely is you'll end up with refurbished launch unit electronics and you'll end up having to ship it back to microsoft again within a week of getting your refurb back.

It's not at all uncommon for your first refurb to need to be returned within a week. In fact i'd dare to say it's damn near the norm.

Hello,

I just bought a arcade edition 360 at bestbuy as a spare while my original 360 is in repair. it says 203w on the outside of the box but inside is indeed a 175w power supply indicating its a falcon.

Lot 747
Build Date 11/27/2007 Team CSON.

Hope this might help you in identifying a falcon.

The same info is also stored on the Xbox.com Forums in this thread:

How to see if you have a 65nm (Falcon) console...

(This thread was actually the original source material for the AnandTech article.)

I'll be putting this info to use soon, since I'm planning to replace my latest refurb with a new Falcon Arcade model. Hopefully, it won't be too hard to find me a Falcon by now.

here's a thought...if they send me one with the smaller chip. wouldn't my old power supply fry it? maybe that's why the refurbished 360's they send back also get the rings as you say...i'm going to call microsoft and ask them before they send it back to me.

Yes you would need a new power supply as well if you got Falcon electronics. Someone here got a Falcon back but the power supply wouldn't plug into their system because the plug has changed. So I would guess that if you got a falcon back from repair that your zephyr or earlier power supply won't plug into it.
