Gaming Headset recommendations?

I'm in the process of saving up some money for a good gaming headset. I'd preferably like it to work with PC and as many consoles as possible.

I'd also like to be able to use it to record the party chat on the Xbox One if that's possible.

Suggestions? I'd like to try to keep it under $200 if possible. If not I'll just have to save a little longer.

Turtle Beach or Astro's will probably be your best bet.   The Astro A40 with mixamp run about 250.00 but require two cables to be connected to either the Xbox or PC.  One cable for sound, the other for power.   I have the Astro A50's and they are comfortable and sound good.  The draw back is they have to use the MS chat adapter and cable for voice chat.  I know they are over the $200 that you quoated but they are the same headset as the A40 as far as sound goes.

Turtle Beach has some wireless headsets in that range that require the base station to be connected to the system you are using.  They also have the 500X and 800X which I belive are completely wireless even for the chat function.  Two possible drawbacks are that the Turtle Beach headsets may feel tight if you have a bigger head and they have a lot more plastic in their construction.  Some people have had the headband snap just above the ear cup.   The Astro's I can vouch are pretty damn tough, I don't know how many times I have dropped them getting up from the chair.

Hope this somewhat helps.

I recommend the Turtle Beach XO SEVEN. The new TB stereo adapter provides chat monitoring (not available in CA).

Simple plug and play.

I have to get a new headset mine hurts my head after I play for about three hours straight. I was waiting for something that integrates into the xbox one without an adapter. Is there anything like that out there?

Checkout the Turtle Beach 800X and I think even the 500X do not require a cable for chat.  I could be wrong though but I belive they are completely wireless.

My A50's are the older style that require the MS chat adapter and the two cables and I have noticed lately that the game sound has an echo if I have the chat cable plugged in.  I know the newer A50's that are for the xbox one have their own chat adapter made by Astro.

I hope that it includes chat monitoring and simulated surround sound.

500x is completely wireless (except when you have to recharge the batteries) and includes surround sound and chat monitoring.  Works great for me.

The Astro's do have mic monitoring, or sidetone, but you have to have the mic up against your mouth to hear it.   There are no adjustments for it saddly.

I recently tried out several headsets. Turtle Beach XP510, TB P51 and the TB XO Seven Pro (the new one with Mic monitoring, etc). I liked the XO Seven Pro the best. Sounded the best and it's simply plug and play. No charging batteries, etc. The 500x is completely wireless but based on their old designs (like the XP510) and I dont like the comfort of the old design. The 800X is the same style as the newer XO Seven but costs like $300.

I did not try any of the Astro headsets but I read alot of reviews that compared the XO Seven to the Xbox version of the new A40 and the near consensus was that the TB were better than the Astros. This guy did a good comparison https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hd1Ai8PpPF0

If you want to use the TB headphones for other things you can always get the Astro Mixamp separate for like $125 and use the TB headphones with PC or PS4.

If you primarily want PC headphones there are a world of options and I cant help you there. But I do know you can use any of them on the XBone with the MS chat adapter.

Good luck and let us know what you get.

Just a heads up, but another thing to keep in mind is Microsoft is releasing a new controller next month with the 3.5mm headphone jack built in.  No need for the adaptor.

I guess I was lucky that TB doesn't ship retail to Canada. I would have paid for their stereo adapter by now and it would have been worthless once the current controllers wear out.

Depends Deep,  the new controller will have no control over voice/game volume like the adapter does.

I'm speculating that'll all be buttonless and menu driven. I thought about whether or not there will be 5 new buttons added to the controller and I figuered , no. Perhaps one, to bring up an audio menu.

with the new controllers....will you still have the option to use the adapter if you want? or are you stuck with just the 3.5mm jack?

All I read is that a 3.5mm jack is included. No one has reported anything definite yet. One can assume the jack exists where the current propietary connection is.

My guess, the only thing anyone will be stuck with is the old stereo adapter if they ever need to buy a new controller. It's a non issue really.

I saw a diagram that indicated positions for both 3.5mm plug and the stereo adapter. We'll soon know for sure.

Keep an eye out for discontinued XO SEVEN with the Microsoft adapter. Especially in Canada. They're on sale at Best Buy for $169 and a ridiculously low $144 at The Source.

I picked up an extra XO SEVEN set at $144 cdn. A freaking steal! They should work perfectly fine with the new controller too.

Official

w let’s take a closer look at the new Xbox One Wireless Controller, shipping with future consoles moving forward, and now featuring a 3.5mm stereo headset jack that lets you plug your favorite gaming headset right into the controller. With the updated controller, in addition to the volume and mute controls on gaming headsets, you’ll also have the option to adjust headset volume, mic monitoring, and voice and game audio balance through the Settings menu on your console.  We’ve also improved the quality of audio coming through the controller and increased the maximum audio volume on headsets used with this controller, based on fan feedback. All existing controller accessories will work with the updated controller, including the Stereo Headset Adapter for those who want the convenience of fingertip control for their audio. In addition to audio improvements, we’ve fine-tuned the bumpers for more consistent performance anywhere along the full surface of the bumper. And we’ve enabled wireless firmware updates on the updated controller which eliminates having to connect the controller via
