Awsome! This is a great place to ease into online racing! Don't be shy, send out some Frined requests, get into one of the regional in game clubs to make it easier to receive invites from others not already on your list.
Then check out the racing sub forum and see if there's anything that looks good.
Also, there are a few of us that are known for random weeknight lobby's, unorganized, informal, and easy going. A great place to meet new racers and get a feel for the gang. Also good for checking out who's running what, and score some paints, tunes, and advice.
