+1 faith in humanity

Spend enough time reading the news or shopping at Wal-Mart, and you likely have a pretty cynical view of the general American population.

I was blown away by this video, not because of what happened but because of how many random strangers banded together and risked their own lives to save the life of a motorcyclist pinned under a BMW.

I kind of wonder how this would have played out if it happened in another part of the country.

Because I suck at naming things.....

Although I consider myself a moderately creative person, I can't, for the life of me, effectively name anything. My gamertag, GunMunkee was actually borne of a joke (my dad was playing Battlefield 2 as GunApe, so when I played with his clan I thought it would be funny to be GunMonkey). But in MMO's, message boards, etc I struggle to come up with a name that doesn't suck (and I usually fail at that).

Slow career change

In 2003 I moved from the Connecticut suburbs of NYC to New Hampshire. There is something about the quality of life up here that has made me really enjoy the past 8 years - people are generally nicer, it's not as fast-paced, and the cost of living is far more manageable. I've worked my way up the ranks in my company,  I make good money for what I do, and I enjoy my job.

Dead Island. Holy hell.

This is the newest trailer for a game that I was originally kind of interested in. Now I'm committed to purchasing this on its release date. Looks like it could be better than Left 4 Dead.

Power to the people down the road

24 hours after Irene we are without power at our house. I'm really curious to know how the power grid is laid out in my neighborhood - while driving around early this morning I noticed a lot of homes still seem to have power even really close to me. So far here's what I have been able to determine:

Do you 3D?

A year ago I was completely against the overpriced 3D technology, since it was still relatively premature and felt like a fad. This weekend, though, I was in Sams Club and noticed the price of 3DTV's has dropped pretty drastically over the last year. A full HD, 47 inch 3DTV, glasses, and a wall mount for under $1000. I did a bit of research online and found that the TV is rated very positively for that price.
