It's a short weekend at home, but it looks to be jam packed! My Sweet Gal has two appointments this morning, and she and I are going to make another attempt to hit the optometrist this afternoon. We got skunked last week due to events beyond our control, so we had to reschedule for today. Fingers crossed to see if we make it this afternoon, lol.

As you can see above, I added a banner/divider for the blog to differentiate the vent portion from any gaming related ramblings I might put in. It's Cowboy from Medal of Honor, and now that there's a follow up announced, I'm looking forward maybe to playing MoH again, if it turns out to be released on a platform I have access to. My old Xbox is still over at the old HQ, tho I'm increasiningly thinking I should haul that bad boy home, seeing as how I'm paying for an Xbox Live membership or two on it, lol.
I played a couple of short solo Killing Floor matches in between chores on Saturday, and, boy, that is really not a solo game. Whoever can make it past a few waves, even on 'Beginner' settings, must be an FPS badass, lol. Even on the only the second wave, the zombies flood in so fast, one player can't keep up alone. Moving on...

As this posts on the HQ, I should be almost home!! It was a long, long work week, but in minutes, everything will be right with the world, because I'll be back home with my beloved Effie!! Effie, honey, I love you!! I'll be home to have morning coffee with you today!!
As I mentioned last week, I'm still enthralled with the awesome Android smartphone my beloved Effie gave me for Valentine's Day! I don't get too many phone calls, but I actually look forward to hearing the ringer now, since the default ringer I picked is the sound effect from the Nokia phone in The Matrix
I revisited Killing Floor for one short game on Friday afternoon. I did better, using a custom setting, making it to the fifth level before I accidentally walked over my own grenade and blowed myself up real good! The game has not much plot to it, since it's basically just a framework/excuse for throwing a lot of zombies at you. And I'm OK with that. When the game ended, my hands were literally shaking from adrenalin. I've gotten that kind of thing before, both in real life and games, but it's been a while since I had that level of immersion in a video game. It's a very visceral game, for sure, since it puts you amongst a horde of yowling zombies and you're constantly on the run, trying not to get cornered and torn to pieces. The developer has thrown in little Matrix-like 'bullet time' effects on occasion which are really impressive looking. I've read that the graphics at the time of the game's release were criticized for looking dated. I can't really see it all that much. It looks pretty spiffy on my travel laptop. And, best of all, it will run on my rig, which is more than I can say for Black Ops, lol. Moving on...

As this auto-posts on the HQ, it's the last work day, and I've started the countdown to going home to my beloved Effie in earnest!! Just one more night, and I'll be back home. As I'm fond of saying, I never truly leave home, because home is where my heart is. And my heart is always with my beloved wife! Effie, honey, I love you!!! I'll be home tomorrow!!     I made up for my lack of sleep yesterday morning by taking my red-eyed ass to bed almost as soon as I walked in the apartment door, lol. I only woke up once or twice and drifted right back to sleep pretty dang quick. My Sweet Gal was at work all day, so we could only text back and forth a little when she was free to do it. Can't wait to be home again!!
Included in today's gaming links is a link to the Killing Floor wikia and a YouTube video of some team-based multiplayer gameplay. I might someday give the multiplayer a shot, since my underpowered laptop seems to run that game fairly smoothly! It might run it even more nicely on multiplayer since the enemy AI requirements should be shunted off to the dedicated server hosting the game for the players. I'm still very much learning the ropes of the game, so to speak, so time will tell.
Yesterday's Star Wars links had one omission: I missed the link to Belated Media's analysis of Episode One on YouTube. I've added it to the Non-Gaming links in the main blog below. Moving on...

Space Princess GungalsTM don't fret about trigger finger discipline...

As this auto-posts on the HQ, the second work night is over, and I'm halfway home to my beloved Effie!! Lord, I can't wait to go home to her!! The long week is usually a trial, but this week seems longer than most, for sure. We had a wonderful weekend, but bills have to be paid, so we have to work when we can. I'm half way done, and my Pretty Gal has a 12 hour work day ahead of her today!! But, regardless, on Sunday morning, I'll be rocketing back home to my beloved Sweet Gal!! I love you, my honey!! I'll be home on Sunday.
Had quite a bit of insomnia yesterday, unfortunately. I woke up a couple of hours after going to sleep, and I tossed and turned but wasn't able to get back to sleep. Finally, I kinda gave up and got showered and shaved. That semed to relax me enough that I was able to lie down and doze off until around 4PM, about 2 hrs past my usual wake up time. Today's non-gaming news links have a couple of Star Wars-related items. My beloved wife and I are huge Star Wars fans, and we always have been. As a long-time fan of SF in all media, I've always had a serious passion for the Star Wars universe, if not all of the things George Lucas has done with it. Back when the original film, still called just 'Star Wars', rather than 'Episode IV: A New Hope', I read the novelization of the movie and really enjoyed it. At the time, I didn't know that tho it was marketed as being authored by George Lucas, it was actually written by Donald F. Glut.
After seeing all the Star Wars movies multiple times over the years, I can't help but think that George Lucas got so big that no one (except a lot of ticked off fans) ever has/had the balls to tell him when he's screwing up. The elements of the Star Wars universe - light sabers, Imperial Storm Troopers, the Sith, the Force, Jedi Knights - are cool beyond words. Yet, Lucas can't seem to get those things to stay cool, especially in the latter trilogy. The Jedi are turned into ineffectual bureaucrats... the Force turns out to be some kind of hereditary blood parasite... the Sith, if Darth Maul is any indication, are menacing only when they're lucky since they're killable by a mere Jedi student, and everyone knows Storm Troopers can't hit the broad side of a space barn.
I get it, I really do. Star Wars is Lucas' homage to Flash Gordon. And the Star Wars movies successfully echo those now cheesy classic comics and serials very well. Ever notice that the Star Wars communicator sounds from Star Wars Episodes 1-3 are the exact sound of the video phones from the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930s? It's true. But something is seriously wrong when a ultra-crappy character like Jar Jar Binks decides the fate of an entire Galaxy while about a zillion 'wise' Jedis just stand around looking stupid. Truly. I love Star Wars. I thought being a Jedi would be the coolest thing ever. But I just don't have the midichlorians in me. Thank God. Moving on...
