The Furies are....Furious aka What I Could Not Post Last Night

Fire and Brimstone is raining down on Ontario which means…somebody did something bad and pissed Someone or Something off (we are a multi-cultural society and freedom of religion always leaves me confused) butttttttt, and this could surprise some, it wasn’t me. I didn't do it, nor contribute to it. That I am pretty sure about.

Seems that there was 5.5 earthquake in Quebec and Ontario. I was enjoying lunch in the kitchen at work in our basement, reading the lastest gossip from a month ago in a magazine a co-worker left laying around and felt NOTHING. But upstairs one co-worker reported her papers were moving in her “In” rack and she thought her desk was vibrating and another co-worker thought he could feel vibrations as he walked across the floor. Well…they were very astute and they were right. Down in the Big Smoke (aka Toronto) they evacuated highrise office buildings. Therefore the earthquake was experienced from the north-east of la belle province Quebec into Ontar-ree-airee-airee-oooo and felt by everyone….except me. How special. No I lie. Lots felt it, lots didn’t. It was like listening to participants in a Criss Angel Freaky Dude mass hallucinogenic hysteria…except….it WAS real. I am not jealous I didn’t get any good vibrations – I think I am actually content that I didn’t experience anything irregular, thank you.
Anyway that accounting to the weird stuff from the east…now….we will head west, young man.
Out from Midland was a tornado warning. It touched down and at the time I am writing this – there is a strong possibility of injuries. Which bothers me tremendously. And in the middle of my watching “So You Think You Can Dance” (I am not always a Head Shot Killer Gamer Girl…sometimes I am fuzzy and fluffy and do typical chickie shit) we get the Tornado warning for our area….and yeah, we have high winds and the rain is beating like a PMS bitch out to murder anyone and no one in particular…so I look at the hubby and he looks at me and I go on surfing on the web and watching my show. (I multi-task, how pathetic is that?) AND then…grrrrrr...web satellite crashes….POOP! AND then….grrrrrrrrrrrr…the TV satellite goes “See yah”. However, if you are reading this…then the bright side is I survived and so did my laptop.
But yeah….whatever bad karma had stirred up the universes…just wasn’t me….this time.

Sooooooooooo, on another more cheerful note…apparently McDonald’s might be sued by a Consumer Protection group, ergo the following quote from CBC News (what? I’m lazy, so leave it be) :

A consumer protection agency filed a notice of suit against McDonald's Tuesday, claiming the use of toys to market Happy Meals is illegal, predatory and wrong.
The Washington, D.C.-based non-profit group Center for Science in the Public Interest claims that by advertising Happy Meals that contain toys, McDonald's "unfairly and deceptively markets directly to children."
"McDonald's is the stranger at the playground handing out candy to children," said CSPI litigation director Stephen Gardner.
"McDonald's use of toys undercuts parental authority and exploits young children's developmental immaturity - all this to induce children to prefer foods that may harm their health. It's a creepy and predatory practice that warrants an injunction."

“Predatory”? “Creepy”? Say whaaa? Oh yeah…I knew you couldn’t trust that clown and that Big Mac copper guy?…always terrified me. Now, I like an occasional chicken Mcnugget, I admit it…and I’ve ordered a Happy Meal on occasion just to get the EVIL toy (Star Wars for example) and…I…um….own a Pussin’ Boots glass from Shrek and…I ain’t givin’ it back cause I don’t intend to lick the outside yellow paint in spite of how weird I might be rumoured to be. Am I wrong or does every commercial on TV during the Christmas season deceptively market directly to children? For that matter…doesn’t every commercial on TV deceptively market directly to us who are all someone’s child? Ok, I digress… I just wish that parents would and could get back to parenting and taking responsibility for our children…or….is that a communist approach? Wait! I have to pull down the blinds, hide under the bed and pretend I am not home now don’t I?

Holy moly. I have been reading C. J. Cherryh’s “Foreigner” series. We (she and I) are up to book 11!!! GOOD GOD WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN!?! Okay…here is the thing and the reason I mentioned this at all. I got the book from Amazon on Monday and today is….Wednesday….and I am finished it. Yeah. I love this series. I am a fast reader and fit reading in where and when ever. Confession: even on the loo having a wee. Cherryh (pronounced but not exactly spelt as Cherry) is my favourite Sci-Fi writer and her Foreigner series is a particular favourite of all her works…I have simply gone too far down the rabbit hole and I simply have to know the next part and the next part. I gobble each book up quickly and efficiently and love every moment of it and am a tad annoyed when each ends but usually she’ll resolve the major conflict with a reasonable and satisfying resolution while maintaining some suspense and interest that you want the next book. This time…this book, she’s sort of ended on a type of cliff-hanger…I think I know what the conclusion is or rather will be…but I don’t really know. Which is unusual for her….and….the next book won’t be on the shelves until 2011. That is the really horrible part, that is the problem with series books, that is what is eating at me. It’s like when you love a TV show and in the middle it gets cancelled, or a manga I read is suddenly no longer a priority for the writer so he barely produces 2 chapters (not books, CHAPTERS of maybe 20 pages) per year. I know in my soul you all know where I am coming from…you have felt my loss, my emptiness, my pain. I don’t want to wish my life away rushing for 2011 but dammit….I WANT THAT BOOK!!! There…I vented it. I will be alright now….by the way….it is a good series.

I feel your pain. I started the Wheel of Time series back in 1990. After 11 books, the author died! Another author has taken his place and using the original's notes, will finish off the series with 3 more books, each one about a year apart. And it looks like things are moving the same way with the Game of Thrones series. My sister has gotten so tired of waiting for various books, she only reads completed series!

I too loved the Foreigner series but lost the urge a couple of books ago and haven't picked it back up yet. I am missing Destroyer and Pretender and the latest one, Deceiver. I also have most of her Alliance-Union series. She is one of my favorite writers along with David Weber, Elizabeth Moon, Orson Scott Card, and Anne McCaffrey.

First, I thought this blog was going to be about furries... not the wrath of God. Nevertheless, your randomness never ceases to amaze or entertain. As for the McD's lawsuit, I too wish that parents would take more responsibility for their children. Somewhere a lawyer is making money on this. And, sadly, somewhere there is a parent that's thinking... "yeah, it's Ronald's fault that my kid is . I should get in on that lawsuit." I hope we don't have to hide under the bed now. My TV won't fit down there... nor will my big mac.

"I just wish that parents would and could get back to parenting and taking responsibility for our children…or….is that a communist approach?" I think that's the exact opposite of Communism actually. :D

Hot wheels has the most deceptive commercials of the lot!!!! They NEVER work like they show in the commercial, and then fall apart in a day. Kids are disappointed :(.
