Its been ages....

Chiristmas has come and gone, New Years is past.  Where does the time fly?  It seems like once Thanksgiving is over the rest of the year is is fast forward around here.  Now things are settling down and I have time for me.  Yeah!

So I've been looking into xbox compatible wireless routers....anyone with some tech advice out there.  I'm moving my 360 to another TV in the house and in order to do that I've got to get a wireless router.  The problem may be that we have two 360's.  Our router now isn't the greatest....it almost always has me or hubby at a strict nat....its a Link Sys BEFSR41.  Which means hard to get into some parties or hard for some people to join me because of the setting.  I'm quite the newbie in this department so any help would be great.

Time to leave you with some Friday funnies!

Happy Friday!

TombRaider Underworld falls way short of Edios sales expectations

DUH... Gamers only have so much time/money and look at the big boys you released against. Lack of sales should be no surprise!  I wanted it too until I saw how many other better games were releasing in the time timeframe.

Last EGM was SF4 cover story

So very sad to see EGM go. Being a gamer for most of my life, EGM and was the source of all things gaming when I was growing up. Only fitting (for me) to see them go out on a bang by releasing their last cover story on-line and of course...its all about Street Fighter 4. Yeah!!!

Photobucket

From the Article: "SF4 essentially breaks down the challenge mode into three main categories -- Time Attack, Survival, and Trial. It then separates each of these categories into two difficulty levels, normal and hard -- each setting has its own number of challenges. When you complete the individual challenges on either difficulty setting, you unlock rewards that range from extra colors and actions for each character to titles and icons that you can display with your player profile in online matches.
Of course, the Time Attack and Survival modes are pretty self-explanatory (you earn extra time based on your performance in the Time Attack mode -- or, in the case of Survival mode, health). But the Trial mode's pretty interesting -- it actually teaches you to play SF4 by making you complete specific combos for each character. A challenge with Blanka asks you to jump in with a heavy kick, follow it up with a crouching medium kick and a light punch, and then finish it up with a heavy rolling attack. This mode's a great way for newcomers to learn how to play effectively. "

Twilight Zone Gears!

I was going to post this blog yesterday morning, but work got in the way….so I don’t know where to start.

So, let’s start with how I feel this morning. My eyes, hands, arms are sore! It took two Whiskey Sours to get me to the end, last night. I have this desire to beat and thrash CliffyB. What a cheap trick to have in a game! I felt like I was in a bad Twilight Zone episode. I started getting a bit feisty around level 35. I said something to my clan like “How many more of these darn levels do we have to do?!” or, “I’m heading out for the night, guys.” My clan:”You can’t go now CHAR! You only have 14 more to go!” Me: ”And what does this GET ME!?” Then, some kind of crap about…achievements and bragging rights. ”ACHIEVEMENTS!...”I don’t give a ratsazz about achievements!” Well, I do, but not like this.

Now, what my clan doesn’t mention is that it’s MORE than 14 more horde waves to go. Because when you die, you have to add even more. So, 14 turns into 15 becomes 16 then 17…….!!! So, there I am till 12 am (I have to get up for an early morning meeting), killing wave after freekin wave of enemies. Me (sarcastically): ”Char, what did you do for fun last night? Oh, I killed 50 waves of hoard enemies for three hours!” At one point in the game I told them “I’m gonna need some whiskey (and I don’t really drink) to get through this,” and I wasn’t kidding! So two whiskey sours later, I’m thinking how much I dislike repetition. Gears…way too much repetition. After playing the same area over and over, your mind goes numb. You want to pull your hair out and beat the living $#!t out of some developers.

It showed up in the last level. We made it to Hoard 50!!!! (Bored 50?!?) And all of us were so burned out, we died a few times each. That’s not bad, but after playing the same darn world for, ummm, three hours, it’s not fun anymore! What was fun is our banter and those glorious moments when you think you’re not going to make it, but you pull through anyway. You’re down, most of your team is down, and that one lone teammate comes to save you. This game shines in that. We saved each other, fought our way to the end, but the battle was not with the enemy, but with my bored mind! My mind was fried, all I’m able to do is kill…I’m in some weird twilighty zone, just shootin’ like a mad fem fatale. I don’t hear or see anything but pixel enemies. I’m shooting, sawing, chasing everybody everywhere, but in the background it dawns on me I hear some soft cry for help. Finally, I break my trance to look down . . . I see poor Spot crawling to my legs begging for help. I do heal him, but I was so mind dead at that point, he almost became food for the maggots….heh heh.

CliffyB is on my list for 2009 to meet and ask, “WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?” . . .or is repetition good? After we won, there was no victory dance, but I did feel like bringing my frying pan out to play! (It’s a LBP thing…lol) and chase my clanmembers around the carnage, for making me stay!...lol. You guys OWE me restitution!!! Next Gear game, different worlds...PLEASE....and, we are playing some R2 and you’re gonna like it!

Now,if you'll excuse me,I find out from another clan member that we didn't have to play it that way!. . .So, I'm really bringing out the frying pan now!...run for the hills boys!

Fighting game crazy!!!

I grew up in the arcades. Either I was at home on my SNES playing Street Fighter II, or I was in the arcades playing Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat or King of Fighters.

So arcade gaming is in my blood. I love it. But arcades in the US are all but dead....thanks to home consoles. I miss arcades....alot. Especially in the South East USA. There are basically zero good arcades that keep up to date with their fighter cabs or even repair them frequently. I'd have to go to California or New York to get a game of Tekken 6 in...or Street FIghter IV.

So that sucks.

But....I'm working to change that...I may not be able to afford all new games all the time for an arcade machine....but I can have my own machine at least...and keep up with the emulation scene and try to buy boards and systems as I can afford them.

So thats what I'm doing.

In my last blog I posted a couple of arcade designs that I got you guys to vote on. And I appreciated the feedback. Being the douche that can't settle on 1 thing to save his own life....altered the design yet again....so here it is:

Pretty spiffy yeah? Its a take on the Tekken 5 style Lindberg cabinet.

Here's the marquee I'm gonna hang above the monitor:

I'm going to start building it this weekend. Along with 2 more arcade sticks. So its gonna be a busy weekend for sure. Which I'm fine with.

But I need to get a PC put together as well to slap in this bad boy. I've got one....but I need one with more recent hardware so I can run Street Fighter IV like butter.

I'll be sure to keep the camera handy to take pictures of the process as my buddy Chainer and I get the cab built. I think I can knock it out in 2 weekends if I focus.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Recession ...

I don't if I'm getting old ... oh wait I do know, and I am. But I'm not sure if I'm showing symptoms of getting old. You know the kind where you reminisce about ye goode olde days. Times when ice cream was still fattening, bacon always came in thick slices and it snowed every christmas.

It seems to me that the usual torrent of gaming news in january is absent this year. We're usually treated to all sorts of exciting rumours, press releases and trailers of things to come during the new year. Not this year though. Hottest demo seems to be Skate 2 (Yay??) and all every developer out there is concerned about, is assuring us that ... well, they are not really assuring us of anything. It's awfully quiet on the gaming front.
I would've thought every dev and publisher out there would be busy announcing their exciting line-up for 2009 ... if for no other reason than to entice investors and fightthe consumers' ever dwindling gaming budget.

As i said above, maybe it's just me being an old fart
Thanks for your time
