Music in my ears, heart, and subconscious
After reading BigOne’s blog, I too am reminded of my youth and how strict my parents were, well, they weren’t exactly strict, but they had the music that they listened to, the radio was always on specific stations….basically, no druggy music, no profanities, and none of that “Satan stuff”. So I grew up listening to Billy Joel, the Monkeys, Paul Simon, the Eagles, numerous musicals, and Neil Diamond. I was even named after Neil Diamond, (no screwball, my first name is not Diamond).
But to drive the point home, my father listened to the Eagles up until the point that “they got all crazy, and grew their hair long”…I wish I was making that up. The most ‘crazy’ music I listened to was Pink Floyd (not druggy music according to my parents)…
… then I met my lovely wife (who was allowed to watch MTV where she grew up) Now looking back, I can see how…out of touch my parents really were with the music scenenow I try to calm down by listening to Metalica and NIN, I currently have Social distortion, Sex Pistols, MXPX playing on my XM, Coal Chamber, Korn, Flogging Molly, and Disturbed CDs by my computer. Tilt, the Horrorpops, Clutch, and many more on my Ipod.
Now, if any Billy Joel or Paul Simon song comes on the radio I still find myself singing along with all of the words…they have been drilled into my mind (seriously, read Huxley, I think my parents used that sleep conditioning on me) Now I’m not complaining about that…My wife still listens to Elvis…not that there’s anything wrong with that…as long as you’re not whipping yourself with a pink bullwhip, while wearing ass-less chaps and teal latex in a room full of antique dolls with those life like eyes, because you need an audience otherwise it’s just not the same….that would be kind-of wrong….not that I’m judging anyone here…but no, we only have an Elvis room in the house…books, DVDs, CDs, Velvet paintings, the limited edition Elvis Wineries gift set, the McFarland toys….but at least it’s not Prince that she’s really into…not that there’s anything wrong with Prince…it’s just that Elvis is a lot easier to explain. Really my lovely, darling, forgiving wife, I have no problems with Elvis, and love that you have such a great collection. (In review; no problem with Elvis, love my wife, don't like sleeping on the sofa)
Who keeps pulling me off topic?
ANYWAY>>>>My idea for the next guitar/rock/karaoke game….PUNK NATION. All Punk, Ska, Rockabilly, psycho-billy, punk-a-billy, Surfer Punk, Rasta-punk, Surfer-rasta-punk-a-billy(doesn't exist yet, but I'm sure it's coming) True form fight the power type music….I’m just not sure how to get the brass section interments to work for the Ska(1 word…Spit-valve)(is a hyphenated word count as 1 or 2 words?)....(and is that even hyphenated?)if you ever played brass, you know what I mean….(oh, that and the whole spreading germs thing with putting you mouth on it)….but that’s up to the engineers who design them. But now, I’m off to do something that resembles work…..Never mind, its lunch time!!
