Win A Free Copy of Defense Grid

by Jonah Falcon| Published: Wednesday, September 09 @ 15:24:40 EDT

It's contest time again! This time, we're giving away the Xbox Live Arcade version of Defense Grid: The Awakening, a great tower defense title. You can read GameStooge's review here, which has gameplay videos.

How can you win this addictive title?

Very easy -- tell us what you you did for Labor Day weekend. That's it. The more longwinded and smug, the better. Whoever prattles on about their holiday the most annoyingly and boring wins. We need Grandpa Simpson style stories, folks. Just be honest, and you can win a copy. One entry per IP. Entries must be before Wednesday, September 16 at 12noon EST.

However, there are more copies to win, as GameStooge and Gaming Podcast will also be giving away a code for Defense Grid.

Well friday started off good once i finally got off work at 7pm, i then stopped at the store for some smokes and some redbull as i had a very long night of halo ahead of me. I signed on to live around 11pm and played halo till 5am with royal on our twink tags just beating on timmies left and right. What a great start to the weekend.

Saturday started off a little slow for me as i slept till 2pm, i awoke to my wife bringing me home lunch (pattie melt) mmm.
Once i got moving around i played some guitar hero 5 with BigOne for a few hours which was a blast as we were knocking out achievement after achievement. Then my wife strolls down the stairs and says lets go get ready!, i had this puzzled dumb look on my face. We had a party to go to and like usual im the last to know lol. So i run upstairs and get ready and we role out to this block party at my cousins. They had a pig roast, a live band and all kinds of food and beer and liqour. we partied till 2 am like rockstars lol.

Sunday, i awoke with a very bad headache from the night before. I slept till about 1pm and started getting ready, we had to go over our Aunt & uncles house for dinner and our cousins were going to be there, who just got back from 2 weeks in Hawaii. So we get there and the food was ready to eat, bbq chicken fresh off the grill, mmmmmmmm. once done we all played vollyball (6 of us) for about 2 hours. once we were all wore out we came inside and watch the picture slideshow of my cousins trip on there computer. all 2400 pictures, yes, i said 2400 pictures. apperntly they love there nikon d90. lol. So after a couple hours we headed home. It was still somewhat early in the night for me as i typically dont go to bed on the weekends till 5am ish. so i headed downstairs to my game room and played about 3 hours of GH5 knocking out the career mode, and then i started Batman AA.

Monday i had my parents and my brother in law and his kids over for dinner. I made fresh eggplant parm from my garden, steaks, bbq chicken, chicken kabobs, and macroni salad and taco dip to snack on. it took about 3 hours to make all that stuff, but it was so worth it. fresh eggplant is to good to pass up. Once everyone left around 9, i quickly jumped online for some halo and some more ass kicking off the timmies on my twink..
after about 6 hours of tbagging timmies i finally passed out.

Tuesday was well tuesday, it was an extra day off i took. I woke up around 11am and cleaned and organized my basement and my garage. once done i sat down for some halo with royal for 2 hours and then i played batman aa for about 10 hours straight lol and then more halo to finish off my labor day weekend around 2am lol.

bestest labor day ever

Saturday my wife decided to take off for the day leaving me by myself. No invite to see if i wanted to go, nope, she just gets out of bed early shakes me and says she's going out 'for a while' and will be back later. WTF? So i spend the day alone, just me and the dog. I sorted out some boxes in the garage since it's still full of moving boxes, i figure whatever i haven't looked at in a year i can toss so i figured i better look at some of the stuff. I tried to unbury my workbench so i could setup my tools but was unsuccessful so my tools remain in a bunch of random boxes, it's real fun trying to find the tool i need to fix the latest problem in the house. So after a few hours of that, i make myself some lunch, standard ham and swiss warmed up in the microwave.

After lunch i go outside and inspect the pool, there's the beginning of some algae on the sides so i grab the brush and walk the pool brushing down the edges, then throw some extra chlorine in there to kill the algae now mixed in with the water.

The dog's outside so she brings a ball over for me to throw. I throw it in the pool, she's scared of the water so won't jump in after. Instead she waits at the side until it floats over to her and she plucks it out and i throw it back in. This repeats itself a few times until i'm bored with it and head back inside. Now the dog needs water because she's hot and panting so she guzzles down a bowl of water while i turn the xbox on and plant my ass on the couch. THe dog comes over and promptly burps up half the water she just guzzled down onto my feet. fucking dog.

So after I clean that up, i fire up some Batman Arkham Asylum. All i have left to do are challenge modes which suck so I konw it'll be a matter of minutes before i've switch from having fun to wanting to throw my controller, maybe i'll throw it at the dog for spitting up all over my feet.

It's late afternoon and the wife gets back, she brought chinese food home for dinner. So we eat some dinner and watch a couple movies and that concludes a pretty boring day.

Sunday the wife wants to drag me to a local Highland Games. So it's like a 30 mile drive but i was surprised that the parking wasn't a total clusterfuck, i twas pretty well organized although there was a total lack of signs, we ended up in some private parking lot which is probably why it was so easy, so that cost us 8 bucks. Admission was 17 bucks each, my wallet's feeling lighter already and i've only been awake for two hours.

We walk around the fairgrounds getting our bearings, the wife has a bunch of events and what not she wants to see and as we find each place they're happening, we get tehre at the end when they're announcing who won first second third etc. So essentially we're walking around seeing shit other than people we don't know being awarded ribbons.

We walk through the clan tent city and check out all the scottish clans, they were all pretty boring just trying to peddle their clan t-shirts and other clan logo branded wares. We found a reenactment area though where they were showing the weapons and what not of the era, that was pretty cool. Nothing like walking onto a battlefield with an axe, that's old school. It was about noon so we headed to the grandstand where we were informed that it would cost another 5 bucks to go up into the balcony and be able to watch the festivities. I protested that i already paid admission why am i having ot pay again, but the wife didn't care and forked over a 10er. I guess it was good that we had reserved seats so we could come and go and always have a spot. Which I went 10 minutes later to go find some food, found a scottish meat pie vendor so picked up one of those and a sheppards pie and brought them back up to the grandstand to watch the march of the clans.

After lunch they had the manly events, the caber toss and the tossing event where they throw this really heavy object up over a bar. Like high jump but no one is jumping ju

After lunch they had the manly events, the caber toss and the tossing event where they throw this really heavy object up over a bar. Like high jump but no one is jumping just throwing something up that high. THey had a pro division too, these guys where trying to throw a 55 pound ball on the end of a chain up over a bar that got up to 18 feet. They even had a womens division which was going on in front of us, had some tiny ass girls making some pretty amazing heights, they were throwing a 25 pound bell on a chain. The two finalists also made it to the 18 foot mark.

We wandered around again, found a stadium where the bagpiper bands were coming in and being scored. GOD DAMN are bag pipes loud! After watching this for an hour i had a splitting headache that lasted the entire rest of the day.

Two hours to the end we went back to the grand stand and grabbed a fish and chips and a banger and headed back to our seats for the drummer major competitions and the march of the bands and closing ceremonies. The food was great and some of what was going on was entertaining but they spent like 45 minutes announcing winners and shit and i think i literally fell asleep. I have no vested interested in who's winning what so this was like watching paint dry to me.

Finally we get to go home, my wife has a problem in that she must close every single event she goes to which drives me fucking nuts. I like to go, get my fill and leave. I was ready to leave like 2 hours after arriving but we were there like for 10 hours.

So we stop and grab something to eat on the way home and then watch a movie and hit the sack. I could have slept like a baby except for the throbbing of my feet from walking around all day long.

Monday was another eventful day, the wife had like 10 loads of laundry to do so she literally took over my TV so she could prep her lunches and do her laundry while watching Lifetime and Hallmark movies all fucking day long. YOu know, these movies are totally bullshit, in every single one of them there's some asshole husband that either cheats, beats or kidnaps. What is thsi shit? After every one of them i remind her how lucky she is to be married to me and not that guy on tv LoL.

Anyway i'm not going to watch this estrogen fest so i'm on my own except I can't watch any of my own movies or play xbox because she's kidnapped my TV.

So i spend the day diddling around. I vacuumed the dead algae from saturday up out of the pool, it takes about 90 minutes to clean my pool, it's a decent size. The i ran to Frys Electronics to hang out for two hours and check things out. I don't have any money to buy shit so this is mostly a window shopping trip for me. Why is it all the cheap BluRay discs are old movies? People shouldn't be buying bluray movies of films that came out prior to 2007, you're not going to see the quality of bluray. Save your money and buy it on regular dvd.

Anyway i needed a headphone jack that converted 2.5mm to 3.5mm but they were all sold out. The guy i had helping me look said they sell out fast so i'm thinking then umm.... wouldn't that be like a hint that you should order more quantity then? You're loosing sales because of people like me who are going to just go buy that shit someplace else.

When i got home i spent some time working on my old Treo650 smartphone. I don't use it as a phone, i use it as my GPS becasue i bought a GPS cradle for it back when it was being used as my phone. But it works equally well as a dedicated gps. Anyway while i was cleaning out my boxes on Saturday i found the Monster FM transmitter that I had , it takes any audio source with a 3.5mm jack and transmits it on an FM channel, this one lets you use any radio channel you want and you can preset three different ones. Anyway i don't get good radio reception up here in the truck so i've had the same AC/DC Black Ice CD in the truck for a year now, that's what i listen to and as much as i love AC/DC, im get

much as i love AC/DC, im getting sick of it. So i figured now that i have this FM transmitter, i can set my Treo up with some MP3's and playlists. Well this is whati needed the adapter for so i ordered one of those online because both the phone and the gps doc with audio out have the 2.5mm plug and the Monster FM transmitter is 3.5mm.

Anyway i spent a few hours finding different MP3 programs for PalmOS and trying them out, settled on PocketTunes. It supports play lists and MP3 and some other audio formats. Then i ran some ripping tests with itunes to see which methods would give me a reasonable file size / music quality balance. I have an 8 gb SD card in the Treo and 1GB is used for the GPS maps so i have 7 GB left to play with. I think i've settled on encoding with the files being about 4 megs each. Now i just need to grab my box of CDs and start the encoding process which I have yet to start.

The last exciting thing i did on Monday was lay out ant traps around the house. We have ant problems, these little bastards appear in armies any time they find something they want to eat or drink. The bathrooms are the worst spots, they were all over the cats water bowl in our downstairs bathroom. So i got some ant bait steaks and tried one out right by the cats water bowl. Within an hour they were all up in the bait eating it and taking it back to the colony and since then there has been a huge drop in the amount of ants i've seen. When i saw the bait was working, i put one in each of the other bathrooms, one in the ktichen and put the others all outside around the perimeter of the house. So hopefully i can kill them inside and outside and get rid of these damn pests.

We made fajitas for dinner, they were pretty good and watch the last blockbuster movie rental we had so i could send them all back on tuesday. It was I love you man, pretty funny, i was glad i hadn't paid money to see it in theaters but it was a good rental about a man trying to find a friend who will be his best man and how he goes on these friend dates. It's good for a few laughs if you're looking for a comedy to rent.

Weekend done.

It all started early in the morning, early for a holiday, about 8am, or maybe it was 7:30, no I'm pretty sure it was 8. I had to get up that early, around 7:45 maybe, to do some house cleaning. Just basic stuff cleaning out some closets, reliving parts of my childhood. I may or may not have played some Connect Four or Hi-Ho Cherrio, I have trouble remembering because it was kind of early, around 9am. I found some old building block under a bed in the guest room, that brought back some good times of building forts and then knocking them down when the "natural disaster" of my choice. I think I tended to lean more towards knocking those forts down as a tornado. You know, spin around and around until you're too dizzy to really see straight and then just run into the wall. Those were good times, before video games infiltrated my life. It was definitely a simpler time then.

Anyway, back to Labor Day, Granny called before lunch with an invitation to go to the "big" pond for a cook out and some fishing. (I'm not kidding, the "big" pond is how she described it and I was supposed to know exactly which pond she was talking about on 1800 acres.) So rather than wander around in BFE, I called up my buddy to get ride out to the "big" pond.

Once out at the "big" pond, some of the ladies seemed to think that the fishing was a battle of the sexes, never mind the fact that the guys were the ones fixing the fishing rods for the ladies. Pretty fun little time fishing, mostly just perch, but fun none the less. Of course some of the novice fishers were letting the fish swallow the hooks. It was only a matter of time before those fish would die. One little jerk of a fish stabbed me in the hand with its dorsal spines, I knew better than to grab it like I did, but as is usual, I was just trying to unhook it quickly, and in my haste I got hurt. Latter on we caught some little bass, that was more fun than the perch.

We only saw a couple of snakes, not wanting to risk getting bit, it was gun time. Howard went and pulled out his old 22 rifle to try to kill the snakes. Ha, he was such a poor shot the snakes had nothing to worry about, though I'm guessing that the sound of the little rifle scared them away.

Really the only pests were the ticks and mosquitoes. I never had any tick or mosquito problems. I reckon that I'm just to thick skinned, though some of the people that actually used bug spray seemed to have some problems with the little critters. Nothing like ticks to make some people get squeamish, the real thing is nothing like the old comic book hero.

After such a full day, about the only thing I could even think about doing, was going home and falling asleep. Of course even though I didn't see any ticks on me during the time spent at the "big" pond. I still took a little extra time to inspect my self for any freeloaders that would have attached themselves to me.
