With $80 and a little spare time, 360 owners looking for a little extra room may be able to avoid Microsoft's expensive hard drive upgrade. Since the announcement of Microsoft's 120gb hard drive upgrade, many 360 owners have been crying "foul." Retailing at $179, the drive costs more than double than similarly-sized PC HDDs. But thanks to a mysterious hacker, gamers may now have a cheaper alternative.
Do-it-yourselfers can use the newest version of TheSpecialist's HDDHackr and a very specific Western Digital drive to perform the upgrade. The program, originally believed by many to be useless, takes advantage of the 360's ability to now recognize 120gb drives. Of course, until MS decides to release even larger drives, 360 owners will be stuck at 120gb for now.
But at a mere $80, the new drive comes at a price that even Microsoft can't beat.
