Splinter Cell: Conviction Delayed to 2008

by Dito| Published: Wednesday, July 25 @ 10:35:33 EDT
UbiSoft's latest fiscal report states Splinter Cell: Conviction won't arrive until the fourth quarter of their fiscal year. When is that?

The folks over at Joystiq studied Ubisoft's financial statements and discovered that SC:Conviction has been pushed back to the 1st quarter of 2008.

"We weren't terribly surprised that we wouldn't be getting to play Conviction this year, as we assumed Microsoft would have been trumpeting it in its all-2007 lineup at E3 if possible."
Although no reason was specified, it's widely assumed that the sheer number of major releases scheduled for Fall 2007 is the main reason. Every publisher wants their game on store shelves in time for the holiday shopping season, but Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV are all but guaranteed to dominate the quarter's sales.

The official release date has yet to be announced, but all indications are that Sam Fisher won't be sneaking around your 360 until early next year.

There is a big powerful game lineup for Christmas. On one hand, you want your game to hit the season so it gets mad sales, but on the other hand, will sales be as big if you're sharing the lime light with a few big hitters?

Like Nintendo and Mario Kart, they probably will release this during the "void" of the spring 2008 time frame when the game market dries up after Christmas.

People will start getting their games in September to November (the unlucky ones have to wait until the holidays to unwrap them), then what? Then they sit and wait for the next big games.

A perfect time slot for Sam Fisher.

Oh, and I'm very proud of my photoshop magic on the "Delayed Until 2008" graphic in Sam's hands. I think I leveled up my photoshopping skillz ;-)

Not a SC fan myself but I did really enjoy whatever the last one was, double agent or something. Had fun with that so i wouldn't mind seeing what Conviction has to offer. But not in November ! With the likes of COD4, Mass Effect, Army of Two, Mercenaries, Assassins Creed and RockBand all November releases, i'm sure UBI decided to get out of the mix. Plus Assassins Creed is kind of the same type of game as Splinter Cell, so they'd be competing with themselves as well.

Good decision on UBI's part. Although i'd maybe have flipped Assassins and Splinter and released Splinter in November since it's an established fan base. Then launched a new IP like assassins in the new year when the market's cooled down a bit.

I'm actually not surprised by this. It is actually a good thing because it allows me to have more time to save money for the game (sorry HALO 3 is coming out and that is a must have) and to finish up SC: DA.

That last one was mediocre. This ones being made in the same place as CT was, which was hands down the best. I hope they take their time and make an epic splinter cell not a mediocre one like the last.

Too much coming (Score: 1)

Good. There's just too many games coming out in 2007, and while Alan Wake, Spore, etc are coming in 2008, it's just overcrowded here in 2007.

This comes as no surprise being that they have done this with almost every Splinter Cell Game.

I cant remember which one it was but they pushed the Date on it 3 fucking times!

So it wont surprise me if they push this even again.
