PS3: A Gadget You Shouldn't Buy?

by CodeMonkey| Published: Tuesday, February 20 @ 09:25:39 EST
Smart Money Magazine says the PS3 is #2 on the list of gadgets to avoid... The PlayStation 3 is now a gadget? Well, that's still up for debate, however, Smart Money Magazine says to avoid this product because:
"Specifically, there are a limited number of new games available and the system carries a steep price tag. Currently, there are only 32 new PS3 games for sale at Sonystyle.com: Six of them are ready for delivery, 13 are on backorder, and 13 can be pre-ordered for when they are finally released. (Many release dates for new titles keep getting pushed back.)"
It's hard to argue with the truth. The console has minimal games and not everyone has the same taste so only one or two games might be "your game." So, why foot the bill for USD $600 for a game-less product? You don't. Proof? Look at the dust gathering on PlayStation 3 products in the stores.

One might ask "what about the Nintendo Wii?" It had a huge launch title lineup giving games a selection of titles to play. Not every gamer will play them all but one or two games can be found to every gamers liking.

We think the Wii's North American success is partially based on the success of Wii Sports, bundled for free with the product. You can take home a console without purchasing a game and still be satisfied with your purchase. You cannot really complain about the quality of Wii Sports given its free price tag, and the game was a great product demo for the Wii controller.

Sony needs to think about bundling the PS3 with a good game, no?

on the games, there are none of value after Resistance.

They should have bundled the PS3 with a demo disc of Lair, Motorstorm, etc..

or One of the the sony games like Untold Legends..

Right now the PS3 is a lame duck but in time when the games that come out a year from now have better graphics, good story line, great multiplayer, and if they lower the price it will soar like an eagle just like the xbox the really good game to come out was Halo1 when it was first realesed so give the PS3 time and it will be a good buy but right now it is a lame duck.

Xbox launched with one of the greatest console shooters ever. Then MS went on to garner support with their deep pockets.

Sony doesn't have the budget to gather the support MS got with the Xbox. What they do have is the PS2 name, which doesn't mean shit until you show that you offer the same deal - alot of games and a low priced console. They have neither currently.

For me to ever get it it will ave to be priced at least the same as a 360. Plus all the stories of peoples PS3 consoles dying, or the DVD drive won't grab the disk or their controller broke already (Falelorn) will have to go away before i'd ever get one. This all sucks because now i'd really like to have one too but ah well, my 360 and its awesomness will suffice until then. Oh yeah one last thing....they will HAVE to add rumble LOL

I had a slot-loading dvd drive once,...... once. Never again. Let that thing thermally cycle a few hundred times and it'll start to either not grab or not line up when ejecting. Slot loaders are cool, but the fault tolerance seems much lower than a tray imo.

Sony may still come back even if I hope they don't. However, I'm equally unimpressed with the Wii. A new imput device with 5 of the same games (mostly party games) and simple games at that just does not equal fun to me. Sure Zelda is great (according to reviewers), but it is still another Zelda and then you have to play simple party games. Let me play on-line with my buddies and be able to shoot the breeze with them. Granted this is all my opinion, but I know what I like.

360 Launch system owners all were asking themselves the same question this time last year... where are all the games !??! Then G.R.A.W. launched in March followed by Oblivion and then all the noise settled down. As people were busy playing a next gen shooter and next gen roll playing game, that gave others time to get their games out the door. PS3 will see its games. Problem is games will be released in accordance to how the install base ramps up. Slow=Slow.
